Starting new Char need input on playstyles

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 3:21 pm

I am currently playing a assassin/archer, loving it, and have made it about 70 hours in sometimes i find myself wanting something else so i figured id just make another character but im stuck deciding between 3 play styles and would like some input on them.

berserker playstyle- run in swing giant weapon kill stuff hopefully dont die,im guessing heavy or light armor is preference, does this playstyle get old?

mage- i have heard mages get boring from others on forums is this true?

1h + shield- the prospect of shield bashing someone is cool but is it exciting?

thank you skyrim community for your input.

I'd say each to their own.

berserker; Cool for people who like to be in the thick of things. If you play on expert or above, I recommend light armor as tanking is suicide and the light armor will be a nice bonus to maneuverability.

mage; Very different plays-styles in this one. You can be a sneaky illusionist or a conjurer/necromancer who lets other fight for him. Just for Satakal's sake don't use destruction! It WILL get you killed. This is generally for people who don't want to fight directly.

1h+shield; This is a fun and balanced play-style, where you will often have to think about how you approach stronger enemies and will require some tactics, so I suppose it's for your inner strategist. Again, I recommend light armor for the same reasons.

I think you should pick whichever suits you as a person, but I'd say try them all out and see which you like.
Also, come up with a cool back-story and see which one best fits it.

My favorite combat style (aside from archery) is sword 'n board. I love it. On Master, blocking isn't a suggestion it's mandatory. The perk tree in block is probably the best in the game. I play as sword 'n board, 2 points in sneak so I get the x6 backstab, heavy alchemy, and restoration (I named the class "Pit Fighter," there's a link to the build and description [story] in my signature)

2 Handed, to me, felt like "tap this button." ::yawn::

Magic-user, to me, felt like "hold this button." ::yawn::

I like being a bandit style character, using whatever items you find/mysterious appears in your pockets (if you know what I mean) avoiding the major towns only to sell the goods you have aquired by looting, stealing, hunting, finding and such so you have gold to buy food/other supplies you may need. To me, its interesting, just an idea though :)

IMO

1. Berserker: u can one kill one shot almost everything, but i get bored because u can't use the left hand for magic, staff, shield or torch
2. Mage: the most boring class at first level because spells are repetitive and nothing special and i personally run out of magicka a lot of time. When higher level the fun starts
3. 1h+Shield: the strongest class, when u get the perk that allow u to stop the time when parrying a power attack is something really cool, but the problem come when there are more than one enemy

Berserker - Very simple, yet fun style IMO. You will focus mostly on using the extra range on your weapon to get an advantage over the enemy with light armor, or endure and hit hard with heavy.

Mage - There are so may ways to play a mage that I can't really put it in a simple way. It is the most versitile archetype and verything from destructionists, healers, summoners, illsionists and every combination of these go under it.

Weapon'n'Shield is very basic like the berserker, but more defensive. Should be fun if you enjoy melee combat in general.
