Starting the Companions Questline w 1.6

Is this still a bad idea?

I have never tried the companions questline and I am running out of things to do with my main character. I'm considering joining the Companions for some adventuring (plus I would like to try out Ysgramor's shield, but I seem to recall reading in the CK forums that there is a glitch or bug in the Companions quest line that came with 1.6 that might bork the entire affair.


Is this still the case? Have people made any fix mods to sort this one out?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I am trying to do the Companions quest line now and am encountering breaking bugs at Dustman's Cairn. One was a glitch at a door, entering the next room it dropped me through dead sky back to the entrance. That was fixed by saving and reloading, but now I'm in the room where you're supposed to pull the lever to lock yourself inside, and the gate to that nook is already down so there is no way to progress.
