Stat Ratio Recommendations for 2-Handed warriors?

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 3:10 pm

All,

What recommendations do you have for stat ratio choices for a pure warrior? Well, more or less pure warrior. I want to use two-handed weapons only.

I was thinking 2/1 for Health/Stamina, or maybe 1/1.

Also, should I go light or heavy armor? I know the smart answer is probably heavy, since smithing doesnt affect light armor, but I kinda wanted to go for a barbarian concept and wear furs. But I guess furs endgame wont cut it, since no smithing perks affect it?

Thanks!

I personally like heavy armor to because I like to get up close and personal. But sometimes I wear light armor.

What about stat ratios?

For now, I think I've decided to go with 3/2.

At levels 2 & 3, I went health. At 4 & 5 I went Stamina. In every 5 level block after that, I'll level Health 3 times and Stamina 2 times.

Hopefully that will work out.

Well, I've found little use to put anything into stamina even when I have on a few characters. And I haven't done a pure mage yet, but from what I've read about what can be done as a mage, I'm likely gonna be using the cost reducing enchants.

So I've only stuck with boosting health myself so far. Very helpful for my style of play when facing tough mooks.

Edit:
What are stat ratios?

it's referring to the rate of which of the three you select on level up, mana, health or stamina.

so 0:2:1 for every two levels you pick health you pick one stamina for example.

I am playing a warrior now who wears light armor and wields 2-handed swords. I am put all my points into health to make up for wearing light armor. So far that's working well.

I put Perk points into three trees only: Light armor, Two-Handed, and Smithing. I play on Adept, no magic, Hide armor at level 29, and it can be challenging at times. And a whole lot of fun.

For my pure archer I went pretty heavy on health because you don't need much stamina to get through most fights. But my dual wielder (heavy armor) and two hander (light armor) both ended up investing more in stamina. You do considerably more damage with power attacks than normal swings, and late in the game your armor rating and the fact that you'll be one shotting most enemies should make health pretty unimportant (with the caveat that you'll need enough health to survive mage attacks until you've had a chance to chug the right resistance potion.) I'd say mostly health for the first few levels, then even for a few levels, then finally settle in at maybe 3:4 health:stamina.

Yeah mages are where high health is practically a necessity if you are not expecting them or not setup properly to counter them.

So you could also enchant your weapons with something helpful
Spoiler
a 1-point absorb stamina

and make certain foods
Spoiler
like vegetable soup

I've found investing in stamina to be pretty underwhelming on my 2 - Handed warrior character. You don't need all that much in my experience, just enough to get in 2 or 3 power attacks in a fight as it's unlikely many fights will last beyond that point. If you do happen to need more in the rare extended boss fights, well that's what potions are for. You'll be swimming in +100 and +150 stamina potions before long if you clear out a few dungeons/bandit camps.

I wouldn't bother with more than 200 total stamina myself on this type of warrior character, but I suppose it comes down to how well you can get a feel for the ebb and flow of a typical combat. Say a max of a 4:1 ratio for me, anything more than that seems wasteful as most things won't live long enough for a lack of a stamina to matter much. Besides, not being able to power attack because you're out of stamina is a lot less of an issue than not being alive because you're out of health.

A little magic can be useful for warriors as well btw, so unless you're doing a strict warrior, anti-magic role playing character don't just dump all the points into health. A two-handed weapon using warrior who can also summon an antronach or quickly gain some magical armor in the midst of a tough battle is a much more deadly character.

I personally went with health and no stamina for my Dual Wielding setup... I didn't invest but 10 levels into stamina out of 80, the last 10 specifically... I didn't find there to be that much need for it... If you ever actually find yourself in need of some stamina then just enchant your weapons with an absorb stamina enchant and you'll be fine...

On my pure barbarian (2-handed weapon, light armor), I went 1 level of HP for 2 levels in stamina. The goal was not to tank anything, the goal was to be able to sprint around a battlefield like a madman and get those sweet charging power attacks to 1-shot people left and right, or sideways power attacks to cleave through several guys at once, never letting anybody get a word in edgewise. I was favoring a very fast-paced playstyle, rarely waiting between engaging one group and smashing right into another.

I'd go 0:3:2. You need some stamina because a) it increases carry weight and before you can perk it away heavy armour is, well, heavy. And B) more than one handed you're likely to need power attacks.
