Steam Achievements Broken?

I noticed I haven't gotten any achievements since I turned the overlay off, but then again I don't give a rats ass about them lol.

You do not have to be online. I wasn't online since 11.11.11 but I've got 47 achievements.

From this thread it seems rather random if one gets an achievement or not. Maybe reloading a save from before the achievement (ans doing it again) will help.
You can get achievements offline but they are reset when you go back online, at least in my experience. I lost all my shogun achievements and a few skyrim ones when I logged back online.

If you play in OFFLINE mode... you do not get achievements. (They are uploaded as they happen. Thus, any activity offline will lock-out any progress on that save-game. EG, you can't get achievement C because you got achievement B offline, and B is a requirement for C. No further progression will be recorded for that game. You have to start a new one, or re-load from the point where it stopped recording.)

If you ever used a console-command that counts as "Cheating", and disables all future achievement logging.
This is just plain false. I started playing skyrim offline and lost the achievements when I went online but I could still get others just fine from continuing from where I was. I have all the main quest ones but not bleak falls because I did that offline.
Also console does not disable achievements. I unlocked the golden touch achievement by using the console with "player.additem f 100000" and still unlocked other achievements.

So all we've established is that there's no consistent rule about how this works.

Some people are getting achievements without the overlay, using the console, or offline.

Other people are getting no achievements without the overlay, using the console, or offline.

It's ridiculous, but it's also par for the course for the last two months.

Does anyone actually *know* how this is supposed to work? Since Bethesda has apparently added no info?

Or is this like the endless iPresentinterval debate?

Yes, bro, I'm mad.

I actually posted this earlier - Steam's "official" rule - https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4462-UIOB-0425. Be aware that Bethesda has nothing to with, or control of, Steam's achievement system.

Bottom line is you need to be online or you risk breaking, or not getting, your achievements.

False. Using the console in Fallout 3 and New Vegas did not disable achievements, and just like in Skyrim, you can use the console to gain achievements.

I really wish Bethesda would add something to a sticky to help quash this rumor. It's been around since Oblivion/FO3 and it's always been false.

I concur, using console commands does NOT disable Steam achievements.

Only Valve games(Half-Life 2, Portal, TF2, etc...) disable achievements. :whisper: It's a secret to everybody.

You know I must have played Half-Life 2 about a thousand times and never ever thought once to look at achievements. In fact I was all set to say the game didn't have them until I checked, sure enough it does. And my stats?......0

Last time I played - June.
