Steam connection?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:07 am

Hey, im a person who's wondering if I should pre-order the game on steam or on gamestop....

Steam hasnt been the most comfortable thing, but if i do buy brink for pc by buying the CD from gamestop or smthn, do i eventually have to put it into Steam?

So are people who bought the game from steam be able to play with people who didnt buy from steam?

Also, in Steam, it says that they have the Spec ops pack thingy, but how about the other packs?

Yes, all PC users can connect to each other. Steam or not.

i'm not sure you need steam if you buy it from a store.
it could be you need it, but it could be you don't.

we'll have to wait and see on this part i think

Is it just me or is Steam and Walmart's DLC package looking the sweetest? I mean it's got the awesome mask from the Cinematic Trailer. I'd rather get that than some Quake or Fallout tie-in, however psycho looks pretty tempting too. Also embrace steam!

Quick question, I just want to clarify that you get the packages if you pre-order BEFORE the game gets released rather than only if you pre-order before some arbitrary time like "2 months from now" or something. So basically if I want my Spec Ops gear all I have to do is pre-order before the American Spring of 2011 right?

Brink uses Steamworks (according to this info: http://games.on.net/article/8733/Community_Interview_-_Richard_Ham_Creative_Director_Brink ).

So yes, this game will require Steam.

Hello,
I've been playing DOOM for fifteen years and it is by far my favorite game ever. So, obviously I want the DOOM pre-order pack from Gamestop. However, I also really want to have this as a Steam game so I can have the achievements if there are any and all the other features available with Steam games.

Which brings me to my question: if I pre-order Brink from Gamestop to get the DOOM pre-order pack, will I be able to install the game to my computer when I get it and activate it on Steam?

Thanks for any help,
-Inkubus.

P.S. I looked at other threads, found one I thought would have my answer but I guess I was wrong. Saw an article where a guy said it's a Steam game, but its a few months old now and don't see the Steam logo on the main website so I want to make sure.

P.P.S. I don't mean how you can take any old game on your computer and put it on Steam. That makes it a "Non-Steam game" that just allows you to launch it from Steam, and in some situations activate the Steam community from within the game as you would a normal Steam-game. I mean I want to know if the game will actually be a Steam game if pre-ordered from a retailer like Gamestop.

From my understanding Brink will be using the Steam multiplayer services so in fact you'll be required to use it :)

Is there any official word on that? It would make sense for them to use Steam (and with any luck VAC) but I don't think they have announced it, have they?

At any rate OP they will release more info if it is going to go through Steam closer to release. There isn't much sense in pre-ordering now over late anyway, so you can just wait and pre-order it once they have released the information.

You're right, I can wait to pre-order and see what turns up. No rush.

This is because MW2 incorporated Steamworks features and Steam DRM, which made it so that it had to use Steam to play the game. This doesn't apply for all PC games though (very few actually).

Considering every other game in the world is pretty much as long as you pre-order before release you get the goodies I can only assume Brink will be the same way. And if there was some arbitrary time I assume they would have advertised it as something to convince people to shell out their money now.

EDIT: Hmph, I didn't notice this was in a thread I already posted in, mods can merge if they like.

I pre-ordered from steam, so ya, but Steam isnt the best network, especially for singleplayer.
It's funny how in the vids the producers say that single player is offline, but if the game connects to steam, internet connection is required to play any game, online or offline.

well, thats what happend to me for MW2 singleplayer...
it annoyed me a lot

but i still guess there needs to be internet in order to update the lvl ups and stuff

you can play steam games offline without internet connection, you just have to register the game online once
