Steam: Verify Integrity of Game Cache fails

Post » Mon Feb 21, 2011 2:51 am

FONV keeps crashing when I exit a vendor screen with Chet, 2 different saves

1) Ran CHKDSK on drive used, no problems

2) Used Steams "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" routine, and 4 times in a row, this happened:

Started out fine, chugging away to 67% ,took about 1 1/2 minutes, then jumps to 100% with message "1 files fail to validate and will be re-acquired", then a message saying file downloaded.

After the first time, I tried the game, same issue, but after the 2nd and 3rd time I did NOT try the game, just started the "Verify" again.

Any suggestions?

Your most likely looking at 2 issues here:

1) Steam Inegrity Game Cache: You can ignor this. This issue I have on every single steam game I have. It does not keep the game(s) from working.

2) Fallout New Vegas game issue: Fallout New vegas is bugged. Enough to where I stopped playing it. It will Run - but it is buggy. Currupt saves, Script issues, Quest issues, Codec issues (Does not like anything other than Microsoft codec), Nvidia Graphics card issues, Windows 7 64 bit issues, etc... you geting the point yet?

While there has been 2 patches - the next one for the PC (Next Week) is suppose to fix Save Game issues, Nvidia issues.....

There are other places on this forum where users have had issues with vendors - you may want to do some searches.

Well, I've played over 50 hours with not too many problems: the screwed over Quicksave/Autosave issue, occasional crashes, lot of clipping seen, but overall it ran OK until this issue.

Are you saying that the "Verify.." routine of Steam doesn't work correctly?? Ever ??

new info: checked the GameValidation.log file : InstallScript.vdf is failing file, other 431 ( minus 1??) files apparently OK per this routine

If you run a Verify of FONV do you get same results??

My verify always says that there's 1 broken file too. I don't think that's the cause of your problem though, I've heard that in FONV there's a lot of things the player can do that we're SUPPOSED to be able to do that just crash the game, and so far there's not much we can do about it.

well i know one thing that you have to avoid the thorn setting up monsters/creature matches that is only avoidable by not doing it otherwise you break the quest giver in there. Anything else you can do there I have made serveral post about what to do etc already work arounds, But playing though the game three times have found ways to get though the ultra lux when you are dealing with the white glove in the bath house, to the thorn and its issues, how to gauntee you save the moneral in vegas. Also what drivers people should be using, to stop hording all those playing cards and having an armory that you can outfit your own army with takes up over 5-6megs of a save file at that point and at bigger file sizes is when things start to bug and break more often=/

As for the steam thing same here, it does dnloa a file but does it in less than a second.... whatever it is is game related and I am betting helps in the crashings in the ultra lux bathhouse and or the thorn issues.
