So what's the deal!! Everytime I exit FONV Steam hit's me with a commerical trying to sell be some bizaro game! I paid good money for this game and did not sign into any contract allowing Steam to solicit money from me. This sort of commericalism is sick. There's no selection to stop Steam from doing this.

Oh, I tried to go into Steam and disable it. Well Steam logs me on but there is no manageing your account. So I tried to contact Steam support and Steam support tells me I have no account!! But I load Steam and it has my account logon name and logs me in. Who is running Steam ... the Marx Brothers!! This is the worst ever.

Set it to offline mode, the last time I saw any ads from Steam was months ago.

Since Bethesda has nothing to do with Steam, your best best is to contact Valve about this issue since Valve is developing the Steam program and not Bethesda. I wish you good luck with that, since I know from personal experience that communicating issues with Valve can be a hazardous enterprise by itself . . .

Settings->Interface->untick 'Notify me about additions or changes to my games, new releases, and upcoming releases.'

Interesting, the only time I ever see ads is when I first start up steam. Even then I don't really mind because I like seeing what's out and what's coming.

This is one of the reasons I have converted from a PC gamer. Most of the good new games coming out are on steam and while that's not so bad for multiplayer games I find it a PITA to have to use steam for single player games.

I have no idea how it is a pain in the ass to use Steam. I've been using Steam for thousands of hours, and very rarely have I had issues.

I just run Steam on startup, never shut it off, and can play my games instantly.

Steam may not be perfect, but look on the bright side. We could have been stuck with Windows Live again. Or even worse, SecuRom.

I don't understand this, xbox has pretty similar layout in terms of welcome page, ads, promotions and such. First time I saw the welcome menu of a 360 I was at my buddy's place and I freaked out at how cumbersome everything was. And you say that steam is a PITA? That's some backwards jazz right there.

Not really. I turn the xbox on, get the xbox logo then the game loads. Yes there is a bunch of crude on there now that is unnecessary (the last dashboard update is horrible too) but I'm not forced to have to click through it to play a game. In fact you can use the xbox without ever having to look at any of that at all.

Its probably unjustified to be fair but I have just never liked steam. When I buy a game I don't like having to "register" it so I can play it. CD-keys annoy me enough but having to actually have an account set up, have an internet connection (I know who doesn't have one anyway), log in, register the game, etc, etc. There have been a few games I would have liked to get the PC version of (LFD, MW2, FO3, etc) but I just really don't like that I have to use steam.

Like I said its probably unjustified and steam does have a lot of good points too

You can turn that off in Steam's options, y'know.

Steam has its flaws, but, thanks to them im updated most of my games

Every day i log into my steam it downloads stuff god only knows what, almost every freakin day. Steam does no one any favors people say its a place to downloads games and keep them updated but theres others websites that do the same and they dont force you use some bulky add infested program to play the game.

Ads can be turned off, and if it's downloading something every day it's probably downloading the ads.

I've got three dozen games on Steam and haven't had it download a thing since a Portal update last week.

I unticked the notification box, and leave Steam set on my 'games library' page. I never see ads, etc.

You can also disable 'auto-update'...which is handy sometimes (wish I had done it prior to the last patch).

That's not how it works. Those popups are actually just webpages.

He could have a corrupt file somewhere, though. The client checks for updates, finds one, tries to update and fails. Then repeats this.

You can turn auto updates off, also you can find out exactly what was downloaded pretty easily. Do you have TF2? If so there is frequently tiny updates.

I knew that actually, just didn't think. Figured it had to be downloading something and, as we all know, it certainly isn't a New Vegas patch lately. KnowwhatImean, knowwhatImean?

I wonder if Valve is getting annoyed at me for shutting down and restarting Steam a dozen times a day in the hopes it will detect a patch on startup?

Valve owns the Source engine, so why would they use anything else. Steam sells games that use every engine under the sun, so why is it an issue?

what i mean in every time Valve makes a game the use the Source engine "witch now of days needs a hell of a lot of stuff to be updated"

if you have or know anyone that has programed the Source engine in mods the you know what i mean

anyway i just think that Valve could do a lot better with some new and better engines "like a V8 lol" ( i don't know [censored] about cars so don't flame that comment)
