Still don't 'get' enchanting

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:57 pm

...Well no. Say you have boots that give 10 stamina. Destroy those boots wiht disenchanting. You now have +Stamina enchant permanently. So lets say you get a grand soul gem and boots. You can use it to give your boots +30 stamina. And you do not lose the learned enchant: you can do it for every piece of armor you come across.

Now lets say you invested skill points in Enchant. This can increase the effectiveness even more.

So to sum up: You destroy an item once at any level, you get the base effect permanently in your enchant list, which can be applied with greater effect than the item you got them on bonuses based on soul gem and enchant perks.

It would be nice if we could at least keep the base item when unenchanting it.

Like Fable 2? :P

My friend managed to snag and item of waterbreathing just a few hours into the game... while playing an Argonian.

FYI I just found the Steel Plate Helmet of Waterbreathing at my latest trip to the Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon.... altho I have the spell, so I just disenchanted it.

I know those spawns are random but that's always a good place to look for an enchanted item, especially if you clear out all the stuff from your last trip there.

LOL... But in fact it's not a bad idea because in putting this enchantment on rings, necklaces or others, your friend can make good money in selling them. Waterbreathing is an expensive enchantment.

Because you can use enchanting to improve any other skill.

This is a weird thing for someone to not understand, to say the least.

But... How do it work?

He mistakenly believes that fortify one-handed/two-handed/Archery/Destruction will grant you more xp as it increases the damage. This is false the xp gained is based of the base damage of the weapon/spell.
However Fortify Alchemy and Fortify Smithing can help their respective skills increase more quickly.

It would be nice if we could at least keep the base item when unenchanting it. This would only apply to found items, not ones we made.

I found a nice pair of Ebony boots at a low level and would have liked to use them, even though the enchantment served me no purpose (it was a magic enchantment and my character was pure melee). I could have put some other enchantment on them.

Or alow dual enchanting to a single enchanted item if one has the dual enchanting perk.

Ahhhhhh .... Dual enchanting. Love that perk.
