After cleaning out Vault 22 I returned to McNamara. I had earlier agreed to look for the lost patrols. When Veronica and I leave the bunker, any attempt to speak to the four unpleasant BoS guys leads to our being shot. Instead, I used the World Map to jump to a more friendly location. Since then I've completed several other quests. When I return to Hidden Valley, the four BoS guys are waiting to shoot us. Having since picked up the game guide, I realize now that I neglected to talk to Ramos on the way out.

Is there any way I can complete "Still in the Dark" at this point?

Umm, the four BoS guys are unrelated to "Still in the Dark" their connected to Veronica's personal quest and you can kill them without consequence.

Oddly enough I didn't even fight them.

After the conversation line about them attacking.

The game faded to black.

Then back to normal already in conversation with Veronica. Evidently we already killed them all.

You might have broke the script by Fast Travel too fast.

heres something else to, if you go into vats immediately and blow off the head of the guy that talks to you out of those four the others watch him fall and say "uh, what" and then they arent hostile any more
