STOP Arguing/LEARN History of Id

I come to these forums and what do I see????? People comparing Rage to games that have come out over the last couple of years???? Id was here first, long before Borderlands and Fallout. Study the history of Id and stop comparing games that have come out today to Rage. Rage is from the makers of an innovator and pioneer in the form of Id--trust me, there will be no comparison.

I will not diminish the rich history of Bethesda either, but they didn't bring us Doom, okay?

All I am saying is respect history and know who came first, and also understand, Rage has been in development for like 7 EFFING years. Borderlands was started when?

First of all, don't tell people what they can and cannot say on this forum. People love to compare this game to that game and so on, it's the internet. I am going to leave this thread open, as I am going to assume that your opening post was meant a bit tongue in cheek and not meant to be abrasive - people are welcome to discuss the history of id, and what they expect out of Rage.

Fine. I won't compare Rage to Fallout or Borderlands.

The atmosphere seems similar to the setting of Metro 2033, while the gameplay seems similar to that of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Games are going to be similar. They are going to influence one another. You cannot argue that Rage is based 100% on Ids very own ideas, and its development was not affected by recent games.

Seems alot different to me, though I thought Metro was a very good and pretty unique type of survival game.

I'm interested in Rage but I'll probably just rent it.

If John can quit playing with the phones we can perhaps have a game that is very nice looking and half as good as Stalker. I have been playing id games for 17 years and I once was on a Matrox driver team John led. Just a tester.

I know FPS. When I die I will wake up in hell and I'll smile roll over and look for a shotgun. I have played all id's games. Yup Commander Keen even. I have played many other games from different authors as well. I have over 1000 Doom and Doom2 wads. All the competition ones, H2Hmudfest and the Complete editions Mometo Morte etc. I know id games very well. My daughter was a Q3 monster for a while, does "HUMILIATION" from Lucretzia ring any bells?

Stalker is by far the best shooter ever made. Get even close and I'll be happy.

So, what you are saying is that...it is okay to let people spout mis-information on these forums? This is a fantasy world where facts don't necessarily rule? Yes, people are welcome to discuss the history of Id, and I should be welcome to discuss it as well. Am I not welcome to correct people on these forums who are misrepresenting facts?

When people say that Rage looks like Borderlands, they need to be corrected by being given the correct information that Id pioneered FPS and had a large influence on the shooter aspects of Borderlands and its ilk. If your not going to correct people on these forums who are misrepresenting history then please, leave my post alone so that the truth can be represented. By the way, I am close friends with Id developers and unless I am violating the user agreement here, you need to leave me alone moderator.

I am not a moderator, so I cannot tell people what to say and what not to say....So, it only makes sense that if I am telling people not to say something here--(knowing that I cannot stop anyone from saying anything), it was a tounge in cheek statement--but it made you mad? Hmmmm...

What I am saying is... don't pitch your discussion with a negative slant, because then you don't get discussion, you get defensive comments. You may interpret my comments as you wish. Didn't make me mad at all, but moderators do edit or comment if we see a thread may be mis-interpreted. No conspiracy there. But... carry on.

The 2 no votes clearly show how misinformed some gamers are. If you voted that Id had no influence on the games we play today, well--you need to actually read what developers have said in their own words about the influence of Id. And --well I better not say anything else...such violent thoughts....
