Stormcloak - Imperial side effects?(Spoilers Inside)

Post » Wed Jun 27, 2012 6:20 am

Ehy guys, well actually i was thinking on planning which side should i choose. From a "patriottic" way of things i think i'll help the Stormcloaks.I wanted to ask 2 simple things. One:Siding with any of the two does not have extra benefits of sort comparing the other right? and two, reading on google about a quest i drove my attention to a phrase which stated:"But after the Civil War Stormcloak Guards will replace old guards".So the question,if i do aid SCloaks i will end up having SCloaks guard all over the cities instead of normal like, whiterun guards? Thanks!

There are some consequences. Namely that all the Jarls will be replaced.

If you do the stormcloack quest you will never be able to get the Ebony Blade in Whiterun and if you do the Imperials you can not become a thane of Riften, but that last one is a bug and might have been fixed.

I'm not entirely sure but I think the guards to get replaced by generic soldiers, so IIRC you're stuck with the occupying force in the city.

Jarls will be replaced but only those that are deposed when their hold changes hands.

You should still be able to do the Ebony Blade quest even if you take Whiterun for the Stormcloaks. You will just need to go to Solitude and talk to Balgruuf there as he will be living in exile in Elisif's basemant.

Guards in holds that you win for the Stormcloaks will be replaced by Stormcloak soldiers, who as far as I can tell will then speak and act exactly like any other guard in any other city. IIRC the guards in territories that were already aligned with the Stormcloaks at the beginning of the game (and never change hands for any reason) will not be replaced - there is no need for SC troops to "occupy" a hold that is already on their side.

The only glitch I ran into regarding becoming Thane was in Solitude. I had already done the 5/5 favor quests, but did not get the Potema quest or the Jarl's special quest until after the war was over. I did those and was allowed to buy the house, which I did, then got the Thane quest from the Jarl about helping her people. Apparently there is a glitch where if you've already done the 5/5 favors, the game doesn't immediately update to acknowledge it like it does with other holds' Thane quests. To "fix" it you are just supposed to go do one more favor after the Jarl offers to make you Thane, then everything updates to show you've done enough to get the title.

Problem was, nobody in Solitude would give me another favor quest. I checked all the people I could find that I had NOT already done favors for, and none of them offered the dialogue that would let me do their particular favor. They weren't openly hostile and had all their other normal greetings and such, but there were no options to open a conversation with them. I can't say for sure that doing the CW questline first was the cause of it, but I've been Thane of Solitude on numerous playthroughs and if I played the Stormcloak side it was always *after* getting the title, and I never had any problems with that. But getting it seemed to be impossible when I took the city for the Stormcloaks in the CW first.
