Storming Nellis AFB

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 11:28 am

So the Boomers are armed to the teeth with all kinds of heavy ordinance. You'd think this'd make 'em a tough nut to crack, right? Wrong. For some reason, despite running round with Grenade Launchers and the like, most of them choose to try and fight with police batons. My kill-'em-all character had no difficulty using their own weapons against them, and thanks to the Scrounger perk is now walking round with more than a hundred each of missiles and 40mm grenades. (The loot in this place is fab, and for an explosives-based character I honestly think it's worth alienating them to get your hands on all that ammo for free.)

The only difficult bit was when I stepped into the Mess Hall; for some reason they were happy to fling around explosives indoors, despite not wanting to when they had the whole of the airfield to play on. Still, gecko steak + brahmin steak + nuka-cola + sunset sapsarilla + a whole bunch of doctor's bags meant they only succeeded in blowing each other up, and not me.

Still, I was expecting it to be much harder than it was. I hope the Great Khans put up more of a fight. Maybe I should try my own one-man assault on Hoover Dam, now that I've got all these new toys to play with...

I don't understand why the Boomers weren't flinging missiles at me, is all.

(If you can't brag after storming Nellis, when can you? :sadvaultboy: )

edit: feel free to add your own pointless bragging, though!

It's pointless anyways, the miniboomers are invincible.

It glitched out and it couldn't move could it?

I just stormed the fort and stabbed Caesar to death with my trusty switchblade.

He should have been more cautious - it being the Ides of March and all. :disguise:

The Boomers are armed to the teeth with high-explosive ordnance, so one would naturally assume that storming their base would be a difficult undertaking. As the OP discovered, however, this isn't actually the case as getting close to them causes them to not use it for fear of hitting themselves or each other, which greatly simplifies what should otherwise be a pretty tough battle. The OP was expressing his surprise at this discovery.

Honestly, though, if you go in there with a perked-out high-level character then the only thing that would be even remotely difficult would be getting through the artillery bombardment in the first place, and there are several routes through the rocks to the south of their base that negate this almost entirely (Turbo still recommended though).

Jaconstown was even more of a let-down. I was thinking it'd be like Black Mountain, but almost all the mutants there are unarmed. Still, I had some fun with the chainsaw in the Lodge. (And I still didn't kill enough Mutants to get the Mutant Massacre perk.)

At least the BoS were pretty hard. Those turrets they have are ridiculous, they seem tougher than the Legendary Deathclaw.
