No STORY-DLCs coming?

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 3:15 am

Greetings!

With all those fantastic big budget titles being published during last fall I just finished RAGE two days ago - with in-game spent about 28hrs.
So I really tried to look around every corner enjoying the game.

Now the question - will there not be any STORY-DLCs coming?

You just asked the million dollar question. I'll quote a friend of mine, "The waiting is the hardest part."

There are alot of games in the future I am excited for but I wouldn't mind some DLC for RAGE or at least a confirmation of RAGE 2

if they would have ended the game proper it wouldnt be such a painful wait

and the dlc would be be more of a bonus other than the rest of the game

I hope when a DLC comes out it will feature a signficant bump up in terms of difficulty, one of my major complaints about this game is that it's ridiculously easy. I've pointed this out in my http://imbacore.blogspot.com/2012/02/rage-pc-review.html:

It’s this observation that really struck me as perplexing. id Software has been known for the Doom series, a series that has been known for their cathartic difficulty levels. Since then, I’ve seen a massive drop in their games’ difficulty levels. Doom 3 for one, displayed a significant dip. Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil upped the difficulty but with RAGE, the difficulty level has once again, taken a serious nosedive. I’ve completed the game on Normal, Hard, and Nightmare but even in the last playthrough, I died less than ten times.

Really, what good is a Swiss knife approach to the ammo and consumables system when the game is too easy? Give a game a rocket-firing shotgun, medikits and regeneration potions that can be crafted, a pistol that can double as a medium-range sniper rifle, a built-in defibrillator, and a ridiculously timid AI and you get a character that’s well-nigh invincible. The regeneration potions are overkill, given that you already have a regenerating body courtesy of the nanites that have been injected into your system when you submitted yourself to the Ark project.

Did I mention a defib? Yes, you have a Lazarus device in your chest. You die and you play this seconds-long minigame where you have to time pushing the activate button when these two nodes crisscross each other. The better your timing, the more health you get when you revive—at which time your body emits a powerful electrical charge that kills all nearby enemies. Talk about overkill. (Did I mention the word “overkill” twice now?)

Fix that John Carmack and co and this game's replayability will soar. As it is, it's painful to watch this game nearly making it.

RAGE feels like they chopped the game in half to make dlc.

They didn't chop it in half, the other half was never there to begin with.

Actually, the game did get chopped down because it was too big. Not sure of the source of that comment, but I remember reading that they had to remove a fairly sizeable chunk of it because of the file size. Hate to see the size of it before being culled :P

They have 10 terabytes of data they've collected of which they combined maybe 1.5TB, then cut it down to 1TB, then eventually worked it down to 160gb by reducing as many textures as possible and compressed it to 22gb. So that's 8.5TB or conservatively another 4 versions of the game they could make, but its doubtful they would all be anywhere near the same quality. For the DLCs I expect they'll take the best of what remains.

iD and Bethesda did the only smart thing they could do with this POS. They abandoned it.

Actually not long ago there was some leaked stuff of Doom 4, but really I don't think it was Doom 4, cos out of the 170 (i think roughly) things released, including models and screenshots, the only things that looked like they could belong to Doom 4 were concept art and some models. Other than that, the actual screenshots look like they could easily fit into RAGE DLC, there was one particular shot that even had some NPC's sitting around, and we should all know that Doom is not known to ahve many NPC's, the only ones you do find are cowering in hide outs. I could eb wrong, but I think it's more believeavle that RAGE CLD is nearing completion.

I don't know here are the models http://www.dsogaming.com/news/doom-4-over-170-assets-leaked-by-games-ex-artist-four-music-tracks-revealed/

but here some colored Screens make it look more Doomish to me.

In one of the "leaked" screens there is a poster that appears in Rage... maybe this is Rage DLC and not Doom 4.

The article actually states that they are Doom 4 models from one of the former developers portfolios. It doesn't look very Rage'ish, unless they're going for an urban look to the dlc with those pictures either.

I see it mentioned everywhere that that poster is also in RAGE, but I've never ever seen it once during my multiple playthroughs. :P

Not confirmed or official, just another article where anyone can say anything.

That screen doesn't look like either Rage or Doom, to be honest. Too "not-destroyed-enough" for Rage, and too Rage-looking for Doom, lol.
