RP story (possible spoilers)

I created a lawful paladin-type character, and needed to justify the future joining of the thieves guild and DB. My solution: corruption.

The character is an imperial that wears heavy armor/shield, the mage's circlet, and uses a bound sword.

Aspiring to become a Champion of Light, Roderic Salvian spent many years training in sword and shield techniques. Although it was difficult for him to grasp the concept of magic, he yearned to become proficient in the school of restoration. Set on learning and unimpressed with the Mage’s guild’s political stance, he headed north to Skyrim to join the College of Winterhold.

Along the way, he was picked up by the Imperial Army and carted off to Helgen where he was sure he’d be killed. But something incredible happened there; a dragon attacked and he escaped with the Nord prisoners. He quickly headed to Riverwood to rest, and then continued on his journey. After completing various tasks along the way, he finally arrived at the college and began to study restoration magic.

One day, he heard about the Shrine of Azura and decided to check it out. He excitedly made his way there, not knowing that doing so would ultimately lead him down the path of corruption.

The shrine was incredible. Roderic stood in awe beneath the benevolent construct for quite some time before realizing the priestess nearby. She had a request for him, from Azura herself! Believing that Azura was one of the more good-natured daedra, he gladly accepted and began the search for Azura’s Star.

After days of searching and questioning the townsfolk of Winterhold, Roderic finally tracked down Nelacar. He revealed the star’s location, but warned of Azura’s malevolent intent. Initially unaffected by this information, Roderic made his way to Illiana(?). The further along he went, the more doubtful he became as Nelacar’s words battered his thoughts. He knew that most daedra were inherently evil, but Azura was rumored to be an exception. Why would Azura send him on such a seemingly impossible mission? Could the rumors be false?

After traversing the sunken tower, Roderic finally retrieved the broken artifact. Unsure of who to trust, he took it back to the college and threw it into his personal cache. He tried to forget about it, but he couldn’t.

As time went on, Roderic became quite exceptional in the school of restoration. He engaged in various projects with his colleagues, and even showed an interest in enchanting and alteration; especially enchanting. The more he studied this craft, the more exposure he had to soul gems, and the souls they carry. Discovering and perfecting enchants became an obsession, and he eventually ran out of filled soul gems for experiments. Desperate for more, he learned how to conjure weapons that could trap the souls of his victims. He no longer had the burden of carrying swords or casting the Soul Trap spell to fill gems. There was one problem, though. The lack of creatures with grand souls made it difficult for him to create potent enchants. He quickly realized that black souls, belonging to humans, were much more available. It was at that moment he decided to bring the shattered artifact back to Nelacar, so that it could be restored and used to trap black souls.

The Black Star was created, and Roderic used it fuel his research. Shortly after, he discovered the Atronach forge in the Midden beneath the college. It was here that he pursued interest in the conjuration school, and learned to summon forth Atronachs and Dremora from the depths of Oblivion to assist him in his travels.

tl;dr

Personally, I'm playing a Paladin too. However, I destroyed the DB...because that's what a good guy does.
