Strange issue with Smithing? :(

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 7:59 pm

I'm confused. I bought a Dwarven Bow awhile back, and have now fortified it to 'Epic' to do a Damage of 72 points.

NOW, I made an EBONY Bow which does a STOCK Damage of 61 points. I went to use a Grindstone on the Ebony Bow and when I selected the Bow the stock damage dropped from 61 to 49!!! :(

Fortifying the Ebony Bow from a Damage of 49 to the 'Epic' state brought it to 72! WHY does it fortify it FROM 49 and not 61???

EDIT: Sorry guys, there's no issue. It was an oversight on my part.

Allow me to clarify...

As Aipex8 had mentioned things about fortifying skills, if you ARE wearing (in my case) Fortify Archery apparel, the Stat bonuses from the Apparel ARE counted when looking at (in my case) a bow. My Bracers grant a 25% increase in Bow damage making my 49 Damage from my Dwarven Bow to 72 when fortified to 'Epic', and the 61 Damage from the Ebony Bow up to 90 when fortified to 'Epic'. SO, remember, if wearing ANY "fortify x" equipment, any weapon/item looked at, the stats will reflect the bonus in damage, but does NOT make it obvious... it'd be nice if it were highlighted in green.

That's a good question.

Any possibility that you swapped some fortify archery enchanted stuff for fortify smithing? Not sure if that even changes the displayed damage, but I know I have a separate outfit for smithing that replaces some of my archery enchants.

Are you playing on PC? The new patch seems to cause a few issues with the crafting skills.

Negative, on the PS3. I have the 1.2 patch though, waiting on the 1.3 now. Hopefully it will be fixed in the 1.3. :(

And yes, I was using 'Dwarven Bracers of Major Archery", but those don't fortify the base damage of the bow, just damage done based on your skill... I think, could be wrong, though I don't think the Bracers made a difference. Thanks though. :goodjob:

Have you checked the Ebony Bow's damage in your inventory after upgrading it? I'm pretty sure that the smithing menu shows the "raw" damage of the weapon, and doesn't show any damage increases applied from your skill level/perks.

Hmm, no, didn't do that. Though the Smithing Equipment SHOULD display it correctly, but doesn't. Lame.

The Grindstone shows you the stats of the weapon without considering your skills and perks.

I looked at the Ebony Bows base damage, which was 61. It should fortify it FROM 61, but does not. The base was 61, and after going to a Grindstone, it dropped to 49. Fortifying it to 'Epic' brought it to 72. Stupid Grindstone, WHY DOST THOU ROB ME OF THINE WEAPON DAMAGE!!! :verymad:
