Streaming Game Footage Could Send You to Jail

There is a new Senate Bill that could be passed that would make streaming game footage without prior authorization could land you in jail. This even includes music in videos that are on Youtube where the creator of the video didn't get allowed to use it by the owners of the music.

This will probably not go through since this is extremely stupid but what do all of you think of this bill?

I heard about this awhile ago, I doubt it will pass. And if it does I'm sure some game studios will give permission for people to make videos

Yep but websites like YouTube and JTV are American owned and aren't going to want people breaking these laws on their websites so it will effect you. So it looks like the world police will be enforcing their laws again.

Continue uploading as normal. If the US wants to send thousands of users to jail, so be it. Besides, they'd NEVER get away with jailing that many people because they broke such a pointless law.

While I don't agree with the bill. Local governments do have control over servers located within their borders. Even Canadians may be persecuated due to extradition treaties.

That content could be removed but other than that there would be no penalty with other countries.

I second this.

In fact, if that bill passes, I'm going to make lets play's for every game I have and put it on youtube just for the hell of it and to say "[censored] you" to those idiots up in D.C. :glare:

And you wonder why criminals flee to certain countries... *hint* *hint*. The US government could do implore the suspects' government to release them or impose sanctions. Though I doubt anything like that would happen for a "minor" crime.

There's no way it will ever happen. Anonymous would be all over this.
