Stubborn Spouse Stuck to Sidewalk

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 7:12 pm

So my spouse is normally chillin' with Argis the Bulwark in Vlindrel Hall. He's been doing this for some time, since I got both the house and the spouse pretty quickly for the storage and the rested bonus.

Then I did the Forsworn Conspiracy quest. When I got out of Cidhna Mine, he was standing on the sidewalk in front of Ogmund's house, and he refuses to move from that spot. I ask him to follow me, he says "Sure!" and he stays put. Even if I fast-travel or go through doors, he doesn't follow. So I tell him I want to move into his place. He says "Okay, whatever you want!" and still he stands there.

I tried disabling and enabling him again. Nope, he's glued to that spot on the sidewalk. So I leave Markarth, and head to Riften to take care of some stuff. When I come back to Markarth, this time he's standing in front of the Silver-Blood Inn, similarly amiable yet immobile. I asked him to follow me again, went into the inn. He didn't follow. I walked out of the inn again, and he's missing. Sigh. ~player.moveto... Now he's on the sidewalk at the back of the inn, above the entrance to the Warrens. He still won't move. Well, I can herd him a bit -- if I stand really close to him, after a couple seconds he takes 3 steps and then stops again.

Bah. Men.

(Yes, I'm reloading the save from before I did the quest. Stupid Forsworn, ruining my marriage...)

Brilliant headline. :)

I'm sorry for your misfortune, but I don't know what else you should do.

Try using the following console commands while in your house or where ever you want your spouse.

prid
moveto player

You will have to look up his reg id on the net but this should work.

Could also console command: resurrect 1
Making sure to add the 1 at the end. It'll reset him, or should.

The thing that works for me when Vorstag gets stuck to a rock (sigh--it's happened more than once) is walking straight into him repeatedly to make him move. Works like a charm.

This is a no-MQ character, so no shouts. I actually don't mind reloading and redoing the quest, I just thought this was a pretty odd glitch. :)

If I do this from inside my house, he immediately walks outside and stands on the steps outside. It's pretty funny, really.

An update!

I reloaded the save from before I did the Forsworn Conspiracy quest, and this time before getting myself sent to the mines, I sent my husband home to his own house.

At this juncture, I will mention that my Altmer is married to Aicantar, a feat I managed with the console, and probably why he's a bit buggy with regard to incidents in Markarth.

Anyway, with him safely in Understone Keep with his uncle, Calcelmo, I went ahead and did the quest. He doesn't appear to be on the sidewalk anywhere this time... so far so good. I go inside looking for him, and he's not there with Calcelmo anymore. Hmm. `player.moveto 19909 ... He's back at, well, that bench he sits on in Calcelmo's Tower when you break in there for the Thieves Guild quest (which I already did before marrying him). I can't get him to move this time either. Oh well.

Edit: Hilariously, when I go to walk out of the Dwemer Museum, the quest Hard Answers (the one where you have to go up to the tower for the Thieves Guild) pops up. Seriously bugged, this is.
