Stuck at "Level 1" Loading Screen

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 4:35 am

Hi everybody,

I just recieved Skyrim as a gift and am trying to run it on my PC, I know the video card I have is one that is listed under the low end of the gaming spectrum but the issue I am having is as follows:

1. I start the Skyrim program

2. Bethesda Logo appears, disappears

3. Skyrim logo appears and I click "New Game"

4. Dragon Statue and fog appears, the screen with the helpful game tips that keep showing in the bottom lower right of the screen and the "Level 1" upper right corner.

5. I assume the game is loading, the smoke is still rolling, the Dragon Statue is slowly moving... I can rotate the statue with ease.

6. That's it.....I keep seeing helpful tips, the smoke keeps rolling and I can just keep looking at the dragon statue....

Now, I assume the game is still just "loading" but I let it sit there for like 10 minutes and nothing...the game doesn't neccisarily "lock up" .... it just isn't doing anything more than showing me new helpful tips and letting me look at the cool dragon statue.

Also, I have managed to get passed the screen one time and into the game but due to my setting it was very slow, very low FPS. I was trying to use the LOWEST settings possible to see if that helped but I cannot get passed the dragon statue load screen.

AMD Athlon 64 Processor
3400+
2.20 GHz, 2.00 GB or RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS

Now again, I understand the FPS issue and what causes it.... I just want to be able to actually get passed the dragon statue level 1 load screen lol. But like I said, it's not like the computer "freezes" .... it just continually wants to load or is taking a LOOOONG time loading.

What could I do to help this?

I hate to tell you, but the only thing you can really do is upgrade. That computer is just ancient. I'm honestly surprised the game would load at all.

I have a 570, but experianced this when I had my nvidia control panel settings maxed out from another game. I think it specifically was 8xssaa.

Try going into the control panel and restoring every graphic setting back to defaults. Also lower settings and resolution. And slowly work your way back up(that is if restoring the cp is needed/works).

Look at the hardware again. Everything is a jillion years old, single core, slow, way way below minimum. Your suggestion is not at all likely to turn that old slug into a racing machne.
