Stuck on Main Quest with 3 gated doors.. how to pass them?

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 11:15 pm

I'm on the main quest where I'm suppose to get a wind "thingy" but Ive made my way down the dungeon to three stones. when you walk by them they glow and open a gate. I run and use speed shout but only can pass the first gate. How do I pass all three? Thanks

I've always had to use Whirlwind Sprint twice to get through all the gates. It helps to have an Amulet of Talos to cut down on the cooldown time, because you have to shout back to back very fast to make it through. Always takes me a few tries to make it.

Seems to work for me on one shot, if I just time it right. Just sprint through until all gates open a path and then whirlwind sprint. When I first played it was a pain though.

I once tried this puzzle for an hour straight. I would get all gates open, but then the Whirlwind Sprint must be executed with surgical precision. I don't know why they made it this way. I kept getting caught on the edge of the door and would come to a complete stop, ruining the attempt. This would happen over and over. I finally got through... basically because of dumb luck. The game finally accepted the angle at which I Whirlwind Sprinted. Would it have killed them to make the path just a smidge wider? :)

Tell your follower to stay put well before the three door and posts region. You will have to complete the rest of the dungeon and head back to your follower afterwards.

The game is much more intense without a tank to stand behind. Still it saves the first aid of extracting the pins from the back of their heads.

Yep. I had a HORRIBLE time with this. My reflexes are NOT those of a young person, and timing + angle + keyboarding == frustration. It took me over an hour to get it, and I was drenched in sweat, clenching my jaw to the point of causing myself real pain. That's not the main reason I'm not doing the MQ ever again, but it's definitely a secondary one.

Make sure you don't have your weapons drawn.

I didn't - but that might be a good thing as a reminder for some folks!

My sense of timing is awful--I gave up and used TLC.

I have YET to get clipping to work right. It's worse than simply being uncoordinated IMO.

You need to undo TLC as soon as possible, or it will get you into trouble. I had to try it a couple of times before I had it working right. Much better when I can just make the game work the way it supposed to.

Oh, it's not that I'm leaving it always enabled. It's that I simply can't "see" where to go....

I'm not sure I understand. All the advice I can give is to only use it in areas where all you have to do is walk straight forward--hope that helps.

Ah.... well, I guess I'm never wanting to do that with it.... For instance, where I really WANT to use it is getting into Markarth without starting the stupid, inane Forsworn Conspiracy quest - which requires (assumedly) "climbing" with it.... works fine, but when you get where you really want to go, and reset clipping, you simply fall through to the "bottom"....

Doesn't matter. I've just gone to using coc MarkarthUnderStoneKeep instead.

It's very simple!!

First pass a few times to see how they open and close.

Then JUST RUN toward the opened gate ( when running it opens the first one) and THEN use your shout.

Or even, use your shout and then run.

You'll see that's very easy.

Combination of Whirlwin shout and sprinting is the way to do it.

Keep trying, you'll get it eventually.

Not for someone with 65 year old reflexes.... but yes, I did finally get it done. Won't ever do it again though. There's a reason I never played arcade games....

Of the three times I completed this, I always found my whirlwind sprint worked twice in rapid succession. Right around when I pass the third stone I just mash on Z and breeze through. I distinctly remember multiple "WULD!" yells.

Stay left by the stones before you sprint, not in the middle, gives you just a little exra oomph

After the third retry I also went that route. it's not a matter of timing. My reflexes are still very good and trained after nearly 30+ years of gaming. it's just a matter of luck (not getting stuck in the archway) and bad controls.

This. I'm only 34 and have been gaming since the Atari 2600, ColecoVision, IntelliVision, and other stuff from the VERY early 1980s. My reflexes are fine.
