PC or console?

Console I don't think there is any help.

For the PC you just press the Tilde key " ~ " and type tcl
then press Enter (type it again to shut it off)

***This suspends achievements though.

Console. What a joke. This product is way too glitchy for release.

Happens in every Bethesda game. I don't get how they haven't figured this one out yet.

On PC, hit the ~ key and type TCL. That activates the "noclip" mode. Repeat it to turn noclip off.

You'll need to save and restart the game if you want to get achievements, as using the console will temporarily deactivate them.

If you're on 360 or PS3? I hope you've been saving often.

IMO they should have included a NoClip toggle for consoles (one that tags the game, but does let you use it to escape this common problem).

Most people here are probably PC players, as that's where both Fallout and Bethesda's core fanbase is. We're used to this problem. Although, I must say that it happens much less often in this game than it did in Morrowind or Oblivion. That isn't saying a lot, though.

I've had that happen before and I'm on a console. I avoided losing too much progress because I save often. Most of the glitches I've encountered have turned out to be easily avoidable anyway.

Too glitchy for release though? Hardly. It works fine for me for the most part. Hasn't bugged out more than any other game for me.

if you are in a wall, then there would be a hole in the wall, and you could go through

Do a google search. There's are tons of people who have experienced this problem. It is clearly rushed product.

actually havok is more at fault for this than Bethesda or Obsidian is, but yeh I guess you could say how they incorporated it into the game engine

You'll rarely find me saying anything bad about this game, Fallout 3, or any or TES games, but this is a problem that Bethesda has had since at least Morrowind. In fact, when I think of frustrating moments I've had in the games I've played, getting stuck on rubble in TES ranks #1.

Getting stuck on elevators in Half Life ranks #2.

Valve managed to sort the problem out, though.

He certainly is. Especially since it's more or less spot on.

@hole Don't you have an autosave?

Please forgive me if I don't agree. It was put rather simply by another person on these boards. It was something along the lines of:

The people who are complaining about the game are making more noise than those who are having a good experience since those that aren't having many problems aren't posting it online.

Which is true. Of course you're going to be able to find a ton of complaints in a Google search. Very few people are going to come online to say "Hey this game is great! I'm not having alot of problems either." Instead you hear over and over "This game svcks and I can't play it!" I'm not trying to make light of people's problems... It really svcks that some people cannot play it. However because the noisiest people are the ones who are complaining, saying that the game was rushed to release is opinion because you don't have all the information you need to make an honest judgment on that.

If you have some explosives on hand such as C4 or a bottlecap mine, turn down the difficulty, place the mine down next to you, pull out a gun take aim and fire! if your lucky the explosion will knock you back and let you go free.
Worked for me once, then again it only happened to me once.

Normally 'having lots of saves' is the answer to glitchiness but in this case any autosave would fix your problem.

I'm not a pc elitist because I love my console. I've learned one thing however: games like these, especially with a Gamebryo engine are best played on pc because of these annoying issues.

Well, I am a modder, and when I look at the game through the GECK, I can tell you 100% objectively, either this game was rushed out, or QA was severly lacking. From the issues with saved games, to AI issues, navmesh issues, missing triggers/dialog triggers for quests, clipping, terrain seams, etc etc etc. Even the NV GECK has issues the FO3 GECK and TESIV CS did not have.
