Stupid mistakes we always make?

Post » Thu Mar 31, 2011 1:27 am

Is there any mistake you make in game that you always seem to make?

Mine would be flawed character creation.
I always like to have a high Perp. so I set mine to 8...
I also tend to always take the 4 eyes perk...
I also never wear glasses without a cowboy hat of some kind :cryvaultboy:

Thus I either have 12 Perp which is 2 points wasted...
Or use a helmet without glasses thus lowering my perp to 7 :sadvaultboy:

3 of my characters are built this way. You would think that after time I would have learned better...
I can't be the only person who keeps doing something stupid...

Packing a bazilion chems around all the way through the game, and never using any (except stimpacks and RadX). I always think "oh, I may have a situation where I'll need to use those, someday". But I never do. I should just sell them every time I get back to town, but I'm so used to having them in my pack, and they don't weigh anything, and there's always the nagging voice telling me "you'll be sorrrrry someday if you sell all those..."

So my chars always end up with enough jet, steady, buffout, fixer, etc., to make Jack have a groodalicious orgismic infarction.

I always forget to watch out for landmines in Fiend territory. And I (almost) always get a limb blown all to hell. :banghead: If I walk over two mines I reload, if I walk over just one I svck it up and use a doctor's bag. One of these days I'll build a character with that "light step" perk.

Land whats?

My stupid mistake is that I always have to bring armour and weapons with me that I don't actually use, and can't bear to part with. So, I'm always, always about 1 item away from being over encumbered.

I've broken a lot of bad habits I used to have because I have made so many characters.

Bad Habits Broken

Carrying too many weapons
Picking up items I won't need
Eating ingredients essential to recipes
Using drugs and alcohol
Buying stuff I never use
Killing the Armory master at Hoover Dam

----------------------------------------------

Unfortunately there is still one bad habit I keep doing, but since I'm staying with my character forever, I can't fix it.

I am a self diagnosed perpetual self-detrimental pack rat.

I'll keep crap forever thinking I might really need it, then end up with like 20 stealth boys, 15 plasma grenades, a bunch of magazines etc etc etc stockpiled at various houses that I never use by games end.

Then I wonder why doctors bags and other items are in short supply later on, hmmm maybe if i used a few of those stealth boys that time on I-15....

First play throughs on any RPG are always like that for me.

I always hold onto my Stealth Boys, too. They're so uncommon I never use them fearing I won't have one for when I really need one.

Like so many others im a pack rat, seriously I'll have so much useless junk that im never going to use in my inventory or stored back at my house that if I sold it all I could probably buy the strip. Its like I always think to myself "one of these days your gonna need that broken varmint rifle, and when you do your gonna be sorry you sold it" :banghead:

^^And to Mr MtDew up there, I always end up hording things like that back but then I never use them because im afraid that a situation will come up where I need it but then I'll have wasted it earlier.

I hoard tons of crap too, either for crafting purposes or to repair, mod, and sell.

I also end up with ungodly quantities of ammo, because I don't like selling for caps unless I really have to so I rotate the vendors to get more in stock. Hell, I could probably supply the NCR forces in the Mojave for two years with what I sometimes end up having on hand.

If I actually sold all the stuff I end up not using on a given character they'd likely all be millionaires, and as things are I still end up with 200K or more without even trying to.

I actually never use Jury Rigging for weapons, but for my armor; why did you kill the armory master?

I have to say that in a game like FONV with such a large amount of stuff to pick up and carry around it seems a waste to not. I have one of every weapon, of every clothing item avalable in the game including DLCs back in my modded home in perfect condition at the cost of signifigant caps and i will NEVER use them EVER they just have to be collected and repaired, OCD on overload. It was the only way i was able to get myself to walk past that last tin can laying on the ground although i have carted many a can back to raise the caps to repair the items either at Raul's or the Mohave Outpost. Sometimes i think they did it on purpose just to trigger an OCD overload episode and then i say thanks lolz. I like alot of you can not seem to part with stuff i pick up and i know i will never use it but i just can not sell it because once i do i will need it guaranteed so i cart it back store it, root around in it occasionally all the while Daffy Duck is going through my head "its all mine and i am a wealthy miser!"

Tips coffee cup to fellow misers.

My list?

* Fast travel to Goodsprings Source and then... Oh, right... The Geckos again... *SIGH* I'm sick of Gecko Steaks.
* Enter all sort of dark places and strain my eyes to the tears until I bump into some hostile creature. Oh, never, ever think of Cat Eye! Who knows when I'll find another precious box of it?
* Always pick the Shotgun Surgeon perk and then forget that shotguns do have their use.
* Keep all time a traveling merchant hat and Benny's suite in inventory, then do all the trades in Reconn Armor. *SIGH* This is definitely the one I really keep doing most.

Meh.

Have Barter Items in my inventory but only use them when my bartering skill is 100
Sell ammo and electronics etc i think i dont need, only to find im using the weapon i have just sold the ammo and i need 1 scrap electronic for a side quest
Unequip my weapon as it makes you run fast, when you can just press and hold "R" and it holsters it.
Regarding the above, go charging into a pack of Deathclaws, or raiders ironically "Guns Blasing" without a gun.. :spotted owl: :sadvaultboy:

I also have the problem with keeping a bunch of useless crap. I have over 100 sunset sasperilla thinking there's going to be a quest like in fallout 3 where somebody is going to want to collect them for caps. I have yet to find that quest. I also have 1 of each faction armor. I also have the problem with being 1 item away from being overburden.

This
However I've gotten into the habit of using Mentats now by keeping my lockpick and science a little lower

Spending ages tweaking my characters appearance and not likeing it when she gets into sunlight
Spent ages collecting Abraxo, hot plates and pilot lights before realising they were useless w/o Dead Money which I don't have
Collect things for crafting when I'm never going to need that many. I must have over 30 egg timers now and I still can't actually make Timebombs. As for my empty soda bottle and tin can collection

You were a pack rat in morrowind, that clearly hasn't changed :)

Yeah, I get my survival to about 80 most games, and then never use it for anything more complex than anti-venom and cooking gecko steaks. One day I will actually look up what I can use it for.
