Stupid Skyrim Features! Why did they change this so much?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 3:07 am

It is very annoying and illogical, Oblivion had the combat controls perfected even though it does not have 2 handed magic or dual wielding.

1. You can't block when you use magic/sword, its stupid, they should have added some control to allow for this, obviously someone would still think about blocking and they are fully able to.

2. You can't block with dual wield, a person who had 2 axes in real life would obviously be able to block in some type of medieval combat.

These things just take away the logical realism from the game.

Almost a year since release, and dual wielding powergamers are still marching at the helm of the Baw Brigade.

It's called keeping the game balanced. Twice the damage output as well as the ability to block? Very unbalanced, and makes using a single weapon/sword and shield useless.

In a video game such as Skyrim, there needs to be a balance between realism and game mechanics. IMO Skyrim did this perfectly.

Really no matter how much balance the game designers try to make the game there will always be ways to exploit it.
Personally I don't really care if i could block or not but I do wish I could just use R1 to do my attacks instead of switching back and forth without having any damage bonus for it. And be able to use L1 for something else like an extra shout or block.

In Oblivion, the only thing that made you seem like sort of a God Character was that weird jumping ability that looked like levitation, I never jumped in battle because of it. But most of all is the fact that you can use a shield and any magic spell you want, those Imperial battle mages only had a sword and no shield in Oblivion.

Do any of you recall fighting someone who used a shield/weapon and offensive magic in Oblivion? I don't except maybe this Vampire who almost killed me but I don't think he had a shield. Then again I haven't beat the game because I wanna transfer my save to PC, I just need to do Shivering Isles, finished all the main quest lines including Knights of Nine.

Skyrim is a lot more realistic with the running and how you move but the combat is worse then oblivion in terms of realism. Lets say you decided to go sword and magic in Oblivion to be on more of an even playing field with NPC's who use magic, at least you can still block.

Its madly obvious, it has nothing to do with realism screw what I said, it is common sense, you should have had the ability to block when your using magic and a weapon. I don't see how it takes away from balance, there are no touch spells in oblivion and if you play on a hard difficulty, you know that if you get rushed and hes not dead yet from your magic attacks, then you have to fight.
