Subtle things that would give you away as a Vault Dweller

Besides the super nifty blue suit with a number on it, what things would give you away as a Vault Dweller.

Neat trim appearance.

When opening up canned goods, the dweller would empty out the water/liquid and then pour out the contents into a cooking device or plate. Someone who grew up in the wastelands, would drink the liquid or use it as part of the cooking.



So, what things can you all think of?

Not sure about the canned good's thing. I don't think many vault residents would know how to cook; everything is done by a mister handy and provided by the vault.

But, things that could possible give away a vault dweller:

Accent; vaults would have probably developed thier own accents, especially vaults which are sealed for longer periods of time.

Language; vault dwellers would have a better handle on the complexities of language due to thier...

Education; vault dwellers would have probably recieved some formal education, giving them a better handle on the english language.

Paleness; kindof a no brainer. No sunlight=no tans=very different appearance from someone who's spent most of thier lives in the wasteland sun.

Footware; Along with the vault suite, a vault dweller would probably have some footware which could identify them. They'd probably be much better made than most of the footware in the wastes and so could be a quick visual indicator to someone who's looking for it.

i think that would depend on the reason for the vault dweller to be out of the vault in the 1st place as i see a few different scenarios with a few different variations.

some common traits that would identify one readily, might be as mentioned already....pale complexion, depending on the overseers policies neat appearance(well groomed, manicured, clean shaven) though i'm sure not all post-apocolyptic survivors are brutish raiders , advanced knowledge about science, mathematics etc., more refined linguistics(shakespeare talking to a caveman hehe).

the more uncommon would be based on the circumstances by which the dweller was out in the wastes in the 1st place. if forced out due to some catastrophy within the vault, the blue numbered suit, inadequate footwear, the only problem i see with the liquid from those cans is if a wastelander drank that crap they'd be in for a nasty tummy ache but liquid is liquid to a parched wastelander i'm sure.

the other possible scenario is a scout who would be better versed in wasteland knowledge and how to survive out there. would be wearing local clothing, proper footwear, try to blend in and not be too obviousas they gather intel(though some of those common traits would not help with that)....the palor could be explained as a childhood illness due to some radiation influence and wiping a bit of grime and dirt on yourself would take care of the overly manicured/neat appearance. all i can think of atm.
