Its Fallout, Your not going to get Narsil like swords like the Elder Scrolls.

There are a few sword like blades in the game, like the machete.

I wouldn't mind an Energy Sword (PS3, so no modding) but I don't think they'll be doing that seeing how an Energy Ax is coming out in OWB.
I don't mind the loss of real swords, I was surprised there was no Chinese Officer Swords however.

Do you want to protect yourself with swords, when most people use guns?

-sigh-

That's what I wanted to make, a Legion guy. But, once I found out you can't get the "Blade of the East" because it's the end of the game I got REALLY disappointed!!!

But, I heard if you're WITH the Legion you can pick-pocket "BotE" off of Lanius? Is this true?!

I just think it's so stupid that all of the Melee weapons are completely unbalanced in SO many ways. Basically Knock-Knock, Chainsaw, and Oh Baby! are the only "good" melee weapons. There's no love for Swords whatsoever. NOR mods even for Melee weapons!

PLUS, you can't even "Craft" Shiskehbab's at Workbenchs anymore?! WTF?!

I can roleplay Legion chars just with a Machete and a Cowboy repeater,

This not TES, We dont need swords just because someone feels cool to have it, this the future, what makes you think that a Sword will protect you?

^ That's true: a sword does little against mutated creatures and crazed raiders with guns.

Swords work great against the unarmed, animal, and when silence is a must.

There is no love for the thermal lance..... a giant gas torch! I think it would be the preferred melee weapon to shove up someone's backside.

I prefer the Ballistic Fist because why just punch someone in the face when you can discharge a point-blank shotgun blast while punching them in the face! :P

BTW, you CANNOT tell me in the Future if you didn't have access to Energy Weapons or Guns, you wouldn't make your own Sword? (coughBUMPERSWORDcough?)

Do you know how to make your own sword?

Tesla Canon was also unique, yet it made it's way to the Mojave.

It's not, it was a pre-war Energy Weapon as can be referenced on the front cover of the Future Weapons Today. You can even find an advanced prototype at the crashed Enclave Vertibird.

I do. Although I would be interested in making a plasma sword.

Another thing i'd like to point out. The fact they gave us SO many unarmed choices that it's redonkulous!!!

So, me fighting a Casador/Deathclaw/Super Mutant Master with a frikkin pair of Boxing Gloves sounds SO much more convenient/aesthetic then fighting them with a BLADE?!

I honestly don't get it, Unarmed got SUCH a BIGGER and BETTER arsenal of variety then Melee did. I want to be a "New Vegas Samurai" but they simply WON'T let you! (And by just looking at the Achievement picture, where the hell is the GUITAR Melee Weapon?). OH let me guess it was "too powerful" and got cut? J. Christ man are you serious?!

WAYYYYYYYYY to make this game like a "TRUE RPG" there Obsidian!!! (LIES, all LIES!!!)

Oh, and whomever said Vance had a "special" Shiskehbab you're extremely WRONG. He had a special CHINESE OFFICER SWORD called Vampire's Edge. So get your facts str8 before sputtering BS please...

Here's an official list of swords from both F3 and NV:

Fallout 3:

Chinese Officer's Sword (Vampire's Edge and Jingwei's Shocksword)
Shiskebab
Samurai Sword

And excluding the Samurai Sword, that's a BASE of TWO SWORDS

Fallout: New Vegas

Bumper Sword
Machete (Machete Gladius and Liberator)(Even though I DO NOT count these as Swords IRL, to me they're just big KNIVES!)
Shiskebab (AND the fact you CANNOT CRAFT these at Workbenches hinders this Weapon all entirely IMHO!)

So they're even, for now. If the last add-on doesn't have a single sword then they can expect me NOT to buy this next one in June, AND the last in July. Period.

THAT, OR, they can bump the DMG of all mentioned above (Besides Shiskebab), to better fit "closer" to Oh Baby! Basically if you get that Melee weapon, you don't NEED another Melee weapon it's [censored]. They basically MAKE you use it because ALL OF THE OTHER MELEE WEAPONS completely svck compared to it.

I'm not saying "OMFG this game is terrible, it's a bad game, because it doesn't have enough swords". I like this game, and i'm TRYING to like it more and Swords were something I loved to hunt down in Fallout 3.

And as someone else mentioned, how the hell did THESE weapons get out here?:

Incinerator
Gauss Rifle
Tesla Cannon

And might I add these are all from BROKEN STEEL (besides the Gauss) one of the very LAST add-ons we got.

I understand you want us to use Guns more, but if you were going to HINDER basically every single Melee Weapon in the game to completely svck besides Oh Baby! Then what the HELL was the point of adding Melee/Unarmed into this game?! If they can't stop bullets, etc. etc. etc.?

Why are they in the game period if they don't want this game to be like Elder Scrolls? PLEASE tell me that?

I thought that Lyons Brotherhood got the only blueprints for it.
Guess I'm wrong.
How come the Mojave Chapter got lots of them to sell though?

No they just had a copy of the blueprint, the Enclave still had them and the fact that they were on the front of a commerical magazine means that they weren't all that secret.

I've been told the next DLC (1/2 left), is going to be ENERGY WEAPONS (my LEAST favorite type of weapons...)

Give energy weapons a chance. If you truly want to be feared, energy weapons and a suit of power armor is the way to go. :flamethrower:

The Machete Gladius should really be its own category of sword.....its not really a machete.

The design of the sword is based on the greek "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopis". So no, its not just a big knife. It's also a hell of a lot better sword than the Chinese officer sword as well, since its actually decent in combat.

Come to think of it, I've never had one in any of my playthroughs.....

But given how rare they are, I think it would be way more suitable if the The Liberator was a gladius rather than a regular machete.

They had a gun similar to that during WW2. It was a i think and small caliber round like the .22 mounted on a glove and you could wear it and when you hit someone it fired the bullet. Pretty cool.

Its post-apocalyptic America, not Tamriel. They are not and should not be similar; excluding the aspects of general gameplay. I mean to say that Fallout has guns with 50s [censored], ES has elves, swords, its where black people are called redguards, and abunch of different names for white people.
