Suggestion: Separate Save Files

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 4:52 am

I think this would be a good idea especially since the majority of people here have multiple characters in Skyrim.

I always get scared I'll overwrite my save-game files when I manually save the game.

So... maybe instead of one broad 'Save/Load Menu', it could be separated among characters. For example, when I go to 'Load', it should open up ask which 'Character' I want to load. After I choose a character, I can then choose which saved-file I wish to load for that character.

It would make it a lot more organized, and make it easier to navigate instead of trying to find your character amongst the several 'Skyrim' saved-files.

Or at least have our Saved-Game Files renamed to our characters' names.

This would be brilliant. Especially since it was implemented in the Mass Effect series very well. I don't know why Bethesda wouldn't give the option because the game is made to make more than one character with all the different perks you can get. They also most likely know how popular it is for us to make more than one character so its a mystery to me why they didn't add this feature.

I'm surprised more games don't do this, considering how bad overwriting your save by accident can be in these types of games.

Thanks for the feedback.

I don't like to bring this game up.... but the first Fable game did this well. You went to 'Load', and then selected the Game you wanted to load, and then picked which save file you wanted to load. Worked very great and I felt comfortable about NOT having to overwrite my saved games.

Don't forget, Dragon Age: Origins did this as well. It was very useful. Maybe if we're lucky, it'll be part of a patch.

this has been brought up many times before and the fact that it's not a rpg staple is ridiculous.

Nice idea! I'd love to see this put in patch 1.6. I lost one of my old characters when a friend made a new character and accidentally saved over my character.

I did something like this manually. Created different folders for each character then I just move the save files from the skyrim folder. I have 8 characters at the moment, and play a different one each day. Of course this is on PC I'm not sure if something like that could be done on a console.

It doesn't make any sense why they didn't put something like this in the game.

No. This has been requested for at least since Fallout 3, and if they didn't include in the engine revamp, they sure wont do it in a patch.

On PC you can use save game managers or manage the files manually, on consoles you just have to be careful
