Supply and Demand

Post » Fri Jul 01, 2011 3:43 am

Everyone already knows the release date for OWB by now and I have to say I am disappointed how people are reacting. We've asked for a release date and they supplied one. Sure it may not be what was deemed to appear but we finally got news. I for one am extremely grateful that despite all the demands of a release date we are finally seeing one when they could have left it anonymous for another month if they so desired.

The people at Bethesda and Obsidian have been very forthcoming in knowledge. It would have been better if we were told earlier that the release was moved back to an undetermined time but hey we should have known by the fact they were working on a patch. The only real thing that anyone should have a problem with is the fact they mentioned the release would be in June and that everyone has been waiting patiently for it to come out in June. However it seems as if the expected dates for OWB and LR were not met and this is partially because of the new patch.

The reason this is a good thing that we are not getting it right now is that there are too many variables and releasing it in June is just not a viable (or smart) marketing maneuver. There have been numerous people on the forum complaining that they'd rather buy some other dlc if OWB was not released within their time frame. If people had to choose they would pick something else. By moving the release to July though they will have enough time to advertise and will be releasing during a time when nothing major is being released game or dlc wise. This will give people time to earn money (if they do not have a regular job) after having something like the COD dlc being released (my personal distaste of COD aside) they are going to have virtually no real competition in July for dlc releases (unless I'm missing something). Marketing wise this is a very good maneuver and gives people who say they won't buy it because of other dlc/games time to earn some money. Marketing wise this is brilliant. The fact the fans themselves actually request for a trailer and marketing prior to release to begin with (some threads here talk about advertising for it) this is merely what we want and they are giving in (again) to our demand.

The biggest thing we the fans should be thankful for though is a face to place the release. It is no longer vague and no longer will people be asking when is OWB going to be released. It should clear up the number of asking threads as well. We now have a release date of July 19th. This will inevitably also set LR back but to be honest should we really have expected back to back to back releases (HH, OWB, and then LR).

The equally important thing to be grateful for is the knowledge that the devs are actually listening are making this upcoming dlc patch amazing in terms of fixes. We will probably get the patch or a trailer for OWB first week of July (or possibly get patch next week) either way it will give them time to see if there are any last minute bugs people find or if any of their fixes actually damage the game. It should give them enough time to also fix them before OWB release. Below is a list of all the confirmed Patch info I have found submitted by devs.

Based on the patch info known already we are seeing a lot of fixes and updates which can only be a good thing. They are taking their time on the game and the dlc to make sure it is as bug free as it can be. They had to do a lot for this patch and it was probably very time consuming but they will fix some of the most annoying bugs in this upcoming patch. The people of the forum let them know about problems and they attempt to fix as many of them as they can at this time. There was a demand for a bug fix and yet again they are supplying one. They will probably take a month to patch fallout again after OWB (unless there are no problems) so we'd be getting LR in September. They are making the game better and are not rushing a game simply because they are getting harassed by fans to release it. The people on this forum has waited this long and with a face to the release they can surely wait a bit longer. Not going to kill them is it? (my apologies if the wait does in fact kill you I meant no offense).

Trailer should explain more and hopefully we will get some steady progress reports/screenshots/tidbits in the coming weeks to further expand interest in the game.

patch info: announced legitimately by Jason. for lazy people who don't want to scroll through to find all his posts talking about the patch.

"There's well over 100 fixes in this patch along with massive improvements to performance and stability in major areas.

Also a couple of subtle tweaks and other improvements. I'll try and post a list when the patch is released.

Other than the ones mentioned above, we fixed the last (very rare) instance of ED-E disappearing, and added the means to re-add him if he was lost in your save prior to earlier patches. "[/color]

"ED-E is a companion, so he can still die in hardcoe mode like other companions. That's not a bug.

However there was an instance where he could disappear and still be considered with you, which was not good, since it prevented people from starting Honest Hearts. We fixed the most common cases in our previous patch, but for people who had it occur before that, we've added the ability to get him back again. Also there was one more rare case where he could disappear, and that's been fixed.

There was also a case where he could die in non-hardcoe mode. That's been fixed too. "

"If you mean the holstering-reholstering bug, yes, we fixed that too. :) "

"I looked on The Vault and discovered I'm not the only one with this bug. Is there anyway the glitch where it will suddenly become impossible to re-hire Arcade can be fixed.
Showing up with no followers causes him to reply that the Courier has "quite the menagerie" at their disposal, and talking to him with just Rex or ED-E but no other followers yields no conversation options relating to hiring him.

It seems kind of trivial, but it has happened to me on 3 out of 3 playthroughs (well 2.5 out of 2.5, but that was thanks to the Strip hat glitch that is now fixed), so it's getting a little tiresome.

That's been fixed, yeah. "

"this isn't the 1st time this bug has been issued a fix. hopefully they really did nail it this time.
Please don't let me be 2 hours into playing and see my arms fly up, i'd be crushed!!
patch is looking REALLY good so far btw!

We really did fix it this time. I promise. I wasn't kidding when I said it was hard to fix. We've been working on this one for a very long time.

Guys, we'll post a changelist when the patch comes out. A lot of the issues asked about have to do with uptime and memory performance, which should be significantly better after the patch. "

"If I may add a request to this and any other upcoming patches: PLEASE don't patch exploits (unless of course, they cause undesirable glitches). It was nice to have the infinite cap glitch in the Vikki and Vance, and I would like to keep the few GOOD exploits that we currently have. Thanks!

We take those on a case-by-case basis. Since it's a single player RPG, I personally don't care about exploits if they don't crash/break the game. If you want to cheat, knock yourself out. But game designers don't like it when someone breaks their economy. We fixed a few exploits in the patch, but not all of them. "

"Is the DLC not loading beacuse you have too much issue on the xbox 360 going to be fixed please?I would kill for an answer to this.

Yes, we removed the hard-coded DLC limit. We honestly didn't think anyone would have more than one pre-order DLC pack installed, so we figured we could wait until this patch. "

"Don't mean to prye, but did you guys also fix the scirpting errors that prevent Legionary Assassins from apearing after you first encounter them?

Legion/NCR hit squads got a pretty big overhaul. Lots of fixes to all of that stuff. "

"@ Jason, theres a bug where Arcade Gannon wont follow you at all, if you have no one in your 'posse' he'll say somthing along the lines of "you have quite the menagerie at you desposal" it happend to me once but i managed to get him to follow me when i had rex with me althought im not sure if others are finding it a problem,it took me a while; i wanted to complete "for alud land syne" if thees a fix in the next patch, one on the way or if this helped you at all find the bug it be much appriciated if this could be fixed.:)

Fixed. "

"NCR/Followers Alliance totally fixed.

I could have sworn we already fixed the bomb in a previous patch... "

"Just quickly scanned over the thread...

The beam splitter mod is fixed.
Motor Runner's helmet is now zero weight and removed when you finish the quest.
Repair Kits are fixed.
We fixed a glitch with looping weapons and the VATS camera.

Some of the other issues (infinite load screens, etc) are fixed by the crazy optimizations in the patch. On PS3 we did the most radical overhaul. The downside to this is that the patch is pretty large on PS3. It's a 300+ meg download. Owners of the Canadian English/French build will have a ~600 meg download. 360 is large for a 360 patch (>20 megs) but tiny by comparison.

As I said, we'll be releasing the full changelist when the patch comes out."

"We've confirmed that several times. The player gets a home base in OWB.

Mr.Bergman I Am Just Curios If You Have Re-Added The Vikki & Vance Infinite Caps Exploit?

I don't understand. You want us to put an exploit back?"

"Jason, Im asking about the one bug or glitch in the quest Aba Daba Honeymoon. When i free anders and have to go deliver a package to Motor runner I go into where he is held but has no dialogue options at all. I click talk but he acts just like any other fiend. So rendering this quest uncomletable.

Is this fixed?

There was a bug where Aba Daba Honeymoon would break if you were trying to do it at the same time as O My Papa. That's been fixed, and I *think* that's what you're describing above. "

"Hey jason will companions be able to come into old world blues after we finish the dlc? like for housing and stuff

Its been confirmed by JSawyer that this isn't possible. "

"To whoever asked, yes we fixed the powder gangers issue you mentioned.

We aren't adding NPCs or enemies in the patch. That would be counterproductive. We're trying to make things more stable, not less so."

"I know this isn't bug related but, as mentioned before, will playing old world blues before dead money have any effect on dialog with Christine or any other characters for that matter?

Nope. DLC can't interact with each other or the base game.

The one exception to that was Veronica and Dead Money, and that was something that was planned from day one. "

"My question is that what i can only assume to be a modified assassin's suit(from the quore preview) seems to have different parts you find. Do we take in our own assassins suit or do we find a new one in the big empty and begin to modify it? also if the big empty focuses so heavily on energy weapons would the energy halberd be classified as an energy weapon or melee because it appears to be both.

That's not a modified assassin's suit. And the weapon you're seeing there is a melee one.

Sorta a nitpicky kinda question. If a player makes a build correctly, or incorrectly as the case may be, they can max out all skills at 100 around the early forties. Will any kind of game adjustment be made for leveling when you cant spend anymore skillpoints?

We adjusted things so the game doesn't crash when you max out. BAM.

Not sure if this has been covered in any interviews. I was curious what platform you play Fallout on when play for fun. (Assuming you have to time to do so) And if you do play on PC. Do you use mods? And which mods do you use / like?

It's a toss-up between PC and 360 for me. I always prefer PC games, but I'm also lazy at home and like to sit on my couch and play.

and the waiters in the regular dining area
Mr. Bergman, are these bugs? and will they be fixed?

How long ago was the bunker locked? We may have already fixed that in an earlier patch, but the change doesn't go retroactively. :( "

"I have noticed there is still enemy's falling through the ground mainly rad scorpians up by the mojave outpost all the way across to canyon wreckage has this been fixed?

When stuff like that happens a lot of the time it's because the enemy loads in before the ground has fully materialized. With the new optimizations it shouldn't happen as often. "

"Information is up on the blog

We’ve received plenty of inquiries asking when we’ll be releasing Fallout: New Vegas’s third DLC, Old World Blues. Today I can confirm the content will release on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on Tuesday, July 19th.

Prior to release, we will release a new title update for New Vegas. Along with adding support for Old World Blues, the update will bring improvements to performance and stability in major areas.

We’ll also be releasing a new trailer for Old World Blues in the coming weeks. I’ve already seen an early version, and it’s crazy awesome. Until then, today we’re releasing new screenshots on our Facebook or Flickr pages."

and yes WALL OF TEXT. Deal with it. (if compiling berman quotes is against rules of forum I will delete and merely keep the top section). I will try and update this first post as well every time more info is added from Bergman or other person of legitimate authority).

I've played WoW for 5 years and I'm completely immune to the anger of delays. So what they delay it a month, just go play something else for awhile. There are hundreds of thousands of good games out there that can be finished in a month while you wait.

On my iPod so not quoting but you said about COD DLC and Bethesda having competition. Isn't there meant to be Cod DLC next month?

I'm more upset that they are delaying OWB on purpose, as a market strategy.

Your right about that too man, were going on the third locked topic due to a post limit and who knows how many others that have been shut down before they could get started. It's sad that some of these people don't have anything better to do than sit around and complain about a video game being delayed.

I just skimmed through the thread, but doesn't the phrase "supply and demand" not apply to this situation? There is no finite or quantitative supply of information and DLCs.

Basic rule of thumb : Don't make promises you can't keep.

That's why I'm disappointed. But hey, at least I can spend the points on other things now.

That's why people are mad. They didn't promise it would be out in June, but they said that June would be the most likely release date. Maybe if the delay wasn't announced before the final Tuesday(maybe last week) then there might have been less griping. Yes people are complaining a lot( I was part of that ), but I think it's just a really annoying coping method. They know starting random topics about it won't get anything done but they need to do it to get the frustration out. I would suggest going outside and doing physical activity to re-leave stress, but you can't really force a person to do that over the internet.

Just my thoughts.

They should have announced the DLC being delayed, when they announced Rage was getting delayed. That was during E3 though, and I think it was explicitly stated that no Fallout talk would be done at E3, they should have told us the week after E3.

Either way, and this is by no means an over reaction I just personally feel this way but that was also because I never really enjoyed F:NV like I enjoyed the other Fallouts, after I buy OWB and LR I am going to do my best to steer away from anything Obsidian makes.

(Again those were my feelings about a month after F:NV launch, so please don't gripe me about it.)

Well I have to disagree in regards to Obisidian being "forthcoming with information" - They don't exactly have a track record for being prompt lets be honest plus I've notcied countless threads and countless people ask ask ask (some demands which have been more than nuisances) but genuine people's concern over whats going on with Old World Blues. Bearing in mind the blog update on facebook a while ago, stated the release date being June which was great news but then they wait till, roughly, the end of June to tell everyone "oh its a july release - sorry!" I can understand why this would make people angry they feel let down and now this will make people wonder if its to add, fix or cut content. I even noticed some responses to people asking about the release dates of DLC's as "Ask Bethesda" which makes me wonder if Bethesda we're keeping an eye on these forums or not if they, too, waited as long as they did...

I actually read that wall of text and thanks for pulling it together. It's appreciated.

I had to laugh when I read: "Repair Kits are fixed." Oh, the irony. :D

Regarding broken Boone: "If you mean the holstering-reholstering bug, yes, we fixed that too." This has been my main problem and if it's fixed without something else about Boone being broken, I'll be pretty happy. My concern is that they were trying to do something to him when they introduced the bug in Patch 1.02 that broke him so if they can just fix the bug and leave him alone....

I haven't played since before the last patch so when this patch is released, it'll be interesting to see how much FNV has changed for me. I'm looking forward to playing again after my break from the game.
