Supposedly Companions can't die

Post » Sun May 15, 2011 11:33 am

According to a reliable source which you can find by digging through http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Ausir/Fallout_tidbits_8-2010, companions cannot die unless you are in hardcoe mode. They would just fall unconscious in normal mode.

It's hard to agree with since the source is reliable but it contradicts the whole "kill everyone except one" system, unless they can only die if they aren't following you.

If its really true for hardcoe mode though, it would've been good to mention it in the in-game prompt. :)

That's just...extremely idiotic. They need to be able to die, it's about keeping them alive.

I don't mind too much. Whenever they die, all I do is hit Load Game. But I see why gamers would prefer the challenge.

This. :P

But I'll most likely be playing HC anyway, so it won't be a problem for me anyway. (If I decide not to load when they die, which I won't.)

I dunno, I kind of doubt that's true. None of the developers have said anything about that before, and they have mentioned that only one NPC in New Vegas is going to be unkillable. And heck, in one of Felicia Day's blog posts, she says that you can go find and kill her character (the companion Veronica) if you want to. :)

Didn't they say repeatedly that only one NPC is not killable?

**I'd probably believe it if told that the dog does this... but for the rest, they'd have to come out and ashamedly admit it.

I don't think this is reliable, given the developers.

Calm down people, when a random poster on a forum claims he has sources he can't name, it's safe to say it's a load of bull until a developer actually confirms or denies it.

Sorry OP, but you have no way of proving to us you aren't totally making this up, no matter how reliable your "source" is.

I don't really care one way or the other. For animal companions, I really prefer them to be unkillable or at least essential, otherwise I find they are more trouble than they are worth. As for other companions, if they die and I liked them, I'll probably reload (God knows I did it enough with Dogmeat in FO1, till I gave up after his repeated suicides in the Master's base), if I didn't like them, or had no opinion one way or the other, they can stay dead.

And I have left companions to die before, or killed them myself. One too many bursts in the back in FO1 or 2, and I had no problem aiming at the eye at point blank range with a submachine gun and "firing" my traveling companion. Marcus in particular seemed to have trouble grasping the concept that his Bozar pretty well could one shot any enemy in the game and who ever happened to be standing in front of, behind, near, down range, etc. would also die. Guess who "who ever" often was. :swear: Marcus would often get me in trouble when we would be trying to rescue slaves or merchants from raiders and he would pulp one of the people we were supposed to save while also killing a raider. We would then have to fight everyone, and in the end would be the only ones left standing in a bloody field of corpses. I can only imagine the look my character would be giving Marcus, and the deep accompanying sigh as my character shook his head. :glare:

Ya, I remember reading that somewhere before. Can't remember where though, maybe I'll google it.

Good, now I don't have to re-load and loose an hour or two of play whenever one of those wussies dies. Fawkes was the only one I could count ever on.

But hopefully it's only if they're following you.

I acutally don't have to prove anything, just take a trip to the local Vault and do some digging. Unless you're too lazy of course.

Plus I'm not a random poster here either, which is ironic coming from someone with Xx-xX's.

Him having XxxX has nothing to do with anything. Please provide a link to your source to back up your info. I'm taking the "pics or it didn't happen" approach on this.

Only 1 NPC will be unkillable? Sic! I don't know if I mind the companions being unkillable though. On one hand I hated constantly reloading when they died once the high leveled creatures started showing up, and on the other I think NPC's should be able to get taken down just for the sake of excitement.

Probably isn't even true though. Giving NPC's stimpacks when all they do is pass out is kinda weird. It won't even affect me anyways because I'm going HC mode all the way.

Hmm, so it's true. Dang, I feel kind of bad for the developers that so much stuff is being leaked before the game is even released. :(

You've been here for all of 2 months, and you're insulting someone like Antibody? You really have no place doing that. Of course you don't need to prove anything, but for the sake of us actually listening to you and discussing what you are talking about, linking to your source is generally a good idea. Otherwise people will take what you've said with a grain of salt.

Yeah, but they technically are still killable - if you don't recruit them. And in the HC mode.

Who knows, maybe they stay unconscious until combat is over. That gives a tiny reason to use stimpaks.

Edit: if you want to argue with me any futher do so in a PM, then I'll take it seriously.

It's a guy with the official game guide, pics:

http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=4362

He's answering questions about FNV. This information is accurate.

Edit: Just read through the rest of the thread, people beat me to it.

Well then obviously what the OP is saying is true. That said, I don't think I or anyone else can be blamed for not believing something that had no real source backing it up.
