Thoroughy explore all of Zion. You will find the "story" and eventually the weapon. You will also experience the story and appreciate it and the weapon much more if you do it by yourself rather than having us tell you step by step where to go. It is one of the most engaging stories I've experienced in any FO game and i don't want to cheat you out of it.

I've been exploring pretty extensively to the point that I'm almost giving up. I guess if noone tells me I'll just keep on looking for it....hope it doesn't take me a decade.

It is much more gratifying to do it this way. I enjoyed this story about as much as the main quest.

Honest hearts will make more sense if you search for the survivalists story. Can't say anymore, that would be a spoiler.

Can someone at least tell me this. If I complete the main quest will the story and rifle still be available?

Yes, assuming a white leg tribal didn't grab the rifle during the DLC quest. It can happen.

The caves where you find the story bits are very clearly marked......once you figure out the tribal graffiti.

This has to be one of the best back stories in NV so far. I loved finding the back stories in FO3 as you explored the ruins and learned what the people went through as the Great War happened. I feel NV really missed out on these kind of stories.

But as you search for the survivalist, you will learn, his hand has influenced many things in Zion.

I'll give you a hint... Look for ghost hand paintings next to cave entrances. Not the mere "forbidden hands" that are white on red on white, like on structures and stuff.

And watch your step inside. ;)

And Thirsty.... :slap:

Make sure you read all the entries in the computer terminals. Otherwise you'll literally miss the entire story.

Seems a pity to give precise instructions for the location of the rifle etc, it took me ages to find them and I was really tempted to cheat by reading the wiki but finding them for myself was so much more satisfying.

But I'll give you hint; don't just look in caves.

Have you ever heard of spoiler tags? Seriously. This isn't the spoilers section, dude. Even if the OP was specifically asking for the info, there's lots of other folks reading this that might not want to be spoiled. Either spioler tag your spoiling spoilishness or just PM the dude, but don't screw it up for everyone else.

This. If you dont find all the terminals and read them you wont even know who he is or what he went through.

For me the Survivalists story was the highlight of Honest Hearts. It took hours of searching to find everything but was totally worth it. It is the kind of thing that makes Fallout great. And the rifle is a really nice reward.
Spoiler
I can't wait to take it to Vault 22 and finish his task.

I just got to the rifle, reading every terminal and note, disarming every trap, and becoming part of one of the most touching stories I've seen in any video game, ever. I wished my Courier could have gathered up the Father in the Cave's remains for a proper burial, but then figured he was right where he wanted to be.

The whole survivalist storyline, revealed but by bit, was heart-wrenching and heartwarming at the same time. Reading the 2124 entry made this Courier shed Manly Tears.
