the game runs fine on its own, but the controls are, the best way i can describe them are " sticky". the mouse jumps a little bit when i use it, and as a result, movement is uncontrolled. i don't know how to fix this. i am on the lowest settings, but my mouse is still jittery. any help?

first step you can try is this:
  • Go to \Users\[Username]\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim
  • Open the SkyrimPrefs.ini file with notepad
  • Find the line bMouseAcceleration=1 (located under [Controls])
  • Replace the 1 with a 0

No luck with that stop back.

What appears toe be "sticky" controls with "the mouse jumping a little bit" is actually a result of the engine's microstutter issue, also know as frameskipping. Check the OP here for a solution http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1363249-frame-rate-limiter-microstutter-fix/, and let me know how it works for you.

Stutter fixes vary from config to config trust me as I live on these forums....start with easy fixes and move up. If the one I mentioned doesn't fix it try downloading Simple Borderless Window Mod. I run it as admin to launch my game and it has done wonders for me. If that doesn't work its as simple as delete the executable that it gives you. Next step would be using MSI afterburner to limit fps but I find this is not necessary for me using a 60 hz refresh rate monitor. What monitor are you playing on? What is it's native resolution?

@Toth, just out of curiousity, have you used the new MSI Afterburner BETA? I used SBW for awhile. It was the first fix I found and worked amazing. Then someone on the steam forums in a thread dedicated to the issue currently running about 10,000 views strong posted the Afterburner fix, and it is as good as SBW and then some.

I use both(MSI beta and SBW) but I don't use the Riva Tuner OSD or clamp FPS the beta just has a bug fix that allows me to not have to unclick and re click user defined settings for my fan profile. FPS clamping doesn't help me SBW does.....of course that is just for me and I won't even be as bold as to say for my rig....so many settings can affect how Skryim performs....even on the same build.

@Toth, so you did try the fps limiter in Afterburner BETA? If not, since you already have it installed and clearly know what the game looks like smoothed out, would you mind just once running Skyrim normal (no SBW) with AfterBurner fps limiter set to 60? That's all I'm asking.

I tried that first if anything it reduced my issues using less than my autodetect features. Using SBW I am running everything maxed out with 8x SSAA morph on with edge detect even shadows on Ultra and tweaked to 4096 secondary also at 4096. The game runs smooth as butter anywhere even with 2048 warglaives(with a crazy glow) in first person at a FOV of 90. I have never in my life gotten performance and quality of this level with anything else......that said what works for me might not work for others the same. I have also added a few more VRAM chewing mods to my "playing game" (I have an experimental version as well for screenshots etc.). The game looks better than it ever has and there is no place that I can get a drop in fps below 55 fps. I turned the OSD on to do some comparisons but even what my eye was seeing before was pure GOD mode in contrast to the few issues I had before. Prior I was getting about 45 avg FPS at lower settings.

What are you saying here? It helped "reduce" the problem but you had to lower some settings? Again, not to belabor the point, but you've clearly changed a lot of things in addition to SBW. Right now, could you just boot up Skyrim normal (everything else the same, except for SBW), and try using the framerate limiter set to 60fps. Then if you notice a big difference between SBW and MSI AB, I've got to believe you.

Basically I am saying it reduced the issue but didn't fix it. The SBW allows me to run at what the autodetect chose without reducing shadow resolution and even able to set it higher than the default ultra. My autodetect basically maxes out the game but the performance is terrible...SBW allows me to get those default settings without any hitching, chop, stutter etc.
Strange it is the only game I play with Vsync ON (and i have a ton of ports) that runs better in windowed mode. WoW used to do this on my old rig windowed full screen was ten times better than non windowed and tabbing out was easier so it was a win win.

So 8x SSAA with Morph ON and Edge detect over Standard(over anything from AA off to 4x SSAA) Texture AI set to High Quality(over quality) AF I just prefer the games AF so no change there. I even feel like I could maybe bump Ugrids back to 7 or even 9.

So the fps limiter does work for you. For some reason you just get fps boost from running in windowed mode. That's really funny, because it should be opposite, as a window receive less attention from the OS than a fullscreen application. I love SBW, but I get some fps drop using it, so it's fullscreen and Afterburner Beta's fps limiter all the way. Also works in any game, and there are other games that have this issue too. For instance source games, if you have powerful enough hardware, even with vsync enabled will actually render over 100fps for very brief moments of time, resulting in stutter, even though they should be capping at 60fps (if you have a source game, it's a coll experiment to do). Start the game, open the console type cl_showfps 1. Look at your fps as you walk around. There are times when the fps will spike to well over 100fps (for fractions of a second and cause stutter). So using the fps limiter to cap the game at 60fps, completely resolves the issue. Try it!

No I don't use it to limit FPS just to control my fan speed but I have like the perfect monitor for Skryim I think my stutter comes from my stock i5 and the game being tested in windowed mode using a script that basically does what SBW does. No OC mean I get a bit of stutter....willing to bet an OC would fix it too but I am holding off on that for a while. MSI Afterburner even has some ninja aspects that even totally stock improves the quality of some games....BF3 for example looks so much better just with it running with No GPU OC etc.
