Sword and Board With Light Armor?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 1:01 pm

Has anyone done this WITHOUT smithing?

I want to try it, but am not sure. If I don't smith, what is my max armor rating with the highest level armor - which in this case would be glass since I cannot craft Dargonscale?

What is the max armor rating for fully smithed glass? I want to weight out my options.

One thing I have never done in this game is be a light armor warrior. I will add in archery and maybe a little sneak too for use against the really tough enemies.

Thoughts on the build? I was thinking of:

light armor
one handed
block
archery
sneak
alchemy

Would I have enough perks? I want to RP a Dunmer ranger-like character, but who can stand and bang.

Here is the build I am thinking: http://skyrimcalculator.com/#130369

My current character is set up similar, but I did go the smithing route. That being said, the only way I could see doing light armor without smithing is doing some enchanting and using the fortify block with shield enchantment. That way as long as you make good use of your shield, you should be axle to block alot of damage.

I would take all the block perks and not so much of the archery and sneak perks.
For a character like that I think the right side of the archery tree is enough, being able to be mobile while fireing a shot would help reduce the need for high armor ratings.
Also a little more in alchemy could be very usefull, fortify archery, stamina, sneak, onehanded and lightarmor potions can save your butt.
However alchemy does take planning and a fairly slow game play.

I do this with no armor. Makes the shield 100x more valuable. More challenging too

Thanks for the input everyone. I started this build last night and it is quite fun so far. I am playing on Expert instead of Master this time, just to feel out the light armor thing, but I might crank it back up to master. The only thing I will let myself smith is my bow - a hunting bow.

I have a question about the shield perks. Is the left side of the tree worth it? The deflect arrows and elemental resistance when blocking and all that? I always used it, but does it actually matter that much?
