Quest to join the thieves guild. Been told to meet Brynjolf in the Ragged Flagon but he never goes in there. He only stands outside in the stall like he is giving a speech to people, but he isn't.

Found this online on another forum exact same problem. "I go into the ragged flagon and he's not there, I've waited for over 24 hours and he never appears, I left and spent hours doing other quests and came back to Riften and he still doesn't appear.

I went back and cleared the ratsway the "normal" way, by going through the first unlocked door and fighting the NPC's, but he still does not appear. I can only find him outdoors in Riften standing in the stall where he was during the first quest. He is no longer giving his "distraction" speech however 2 NPC's are still standing in front of him as if he was, and when I try to interact with him, I can only ask where the ratsway is, and something else that doesn't result in anything useful. Does anyone have any idea what I might be able to do, as this literally prevents me from joining the thieves guild "

so you have not met him and talked about thieves guild? I re read and it seems you have already done a job for him, right?

erp. he may be gltiched.

go back to before you got the quest, and then go straight to him. see what happens. also, I went straight from getting his name to finding him inside the pub.

If that don't work, I would check the skyrim nexxus mods and gamefaq boards as well.

Problem is I don't have a save from that far back. Well I do, but it's the start of the game and there is no chance in hell that's happening! :L. Sorry to ask, new to the forum but what do you mean by nexxus mods? I'm guessing gamefaqs is a another forum

Did you complete the quest to steal a ring and put it in someones pocket, it sounds like he is still causing his distraction for you (if you have done that then I guess you are in trouble).

The main thing in TES games is to save often, in new files (I learned the very hard way from the xbox morrowind bug where the game crashed at random when entering a dungeon, in a catch 22 way apparently caused in part by having too many saved games...)
