Taming Perk?

Animal Taming Skill (Credit to gabriel77dan)

How would a skill for it work?
Well we'd get a tutorial for it in the beginning of the game (goodsprings).
And then we can buy calming meat.
Calming meat is meat packed with calming chemicals (sedative like stuff).
Go out, find an enemy, drop the meat, they go neutral and eat it.
Go to it, press the use button, it will ask whether or not to tame it.
If you choose yes a week will pass by in a fade-to-black screen.
After that you got yourself a tamed animal, now you can name him as well.
So what's the point with it being a skill?
Well, you can tame anything you'd want to at skill level 14 if you wanted to, but here's the thing, the less in the skill you have and the higher leveled the enemy the more likely they're not going to follow your commands.
If you shoot it with only one bullet it will rage completely and become untamed again.
On the other hand, if you do have 100 you can tame a lot of animals and they will still stick to you even if you accidentally fire a few bullets into them.
With his new skill comes a lot of new perks to help the tamed animal get better, perks enhancing damage, speed, health, critical chance etc.
You can't tame deathclaws, cazadors, giant radscorpions or lakelurks.

Animal Taming Perk V1(Credit to Wastelander24)

Requirments: Survival 50+, Level 12, Animal Friend (Lvl 1+)
After you get perk you must learn how to tame the animal through books, then find the taming food they eat. (Ex: Book: Gecko's, and The Desert. Food: Giant Mantis Taming Meat)

Levels: 3

Taming Food: Well every creature has go to eat right, what better way to catch them. When you read a book about the animal you want to catch you can find the food they eat most. You can ethier buy this food already sedated, Sedate it yourself, or even have hunters/shop owners sedate them for you. This food will be set on the ground (Like how you set a land mine, but this dosn't explode.... Hopefully) When you lay the food down, you have to choices. You can apraoch the creature and try to tame it. If your survival skill is high enough your chance of succefully taming it will be greater. Or if you were just hunting for food, and wanted to lay this food as a trap, you don't need this perk, just lay the sedated food out, and shoot the monster, Critical guarented.

Taming the Wild: The concept is quite easy. Learn what somthing eats, sedate the food, throw it as a trap, then try to capture the beast. As like the skill version, the perk would take a week's time. After the week is up, you will come back and your captured will be trained. It will ask you to name your new found pet.

Tame able Animals: All animals except Cazadors, Deathclaws, Giant Radscorpions, and Lake lurks are tameable. (No you can't tame that prosttute at gommorah)

Level One: At level one of the perk you can tame young creatures. (Young Gecko's, Mole Rat Pup's, Coyote Pup, etc.)
Level Two: At level two of the perk you can tame advlt Creatures. (Gecko Hunters, Mole Rat, Coyote, Dog, etc)
Level Three At level Three of the perk you can tame the High end creatures. (Big Horn, Radscorps, Coyote Leader, etc)

Control: At anytime you can let your pet go. The only rule to taming is that you can have only two tamed pets at all times. This means even if they are in your suit, you can't get anymore. That said you can still use sedatives, to make hunting easier.
The control will be similiar to a companion, but they can not store anything, they don't give any perks, they can't be healed, (The hardcoe rule still aplies, they heal over time tho) You cant talk to them. The only thing you can do is tell them to be passive or agressive, and to wait and follow.

Activites - You can bet on them in fights with Red Lucy's animals. You bet on them in fights against slaves in Legion camps. (If some of you don't know who Red Lucy is, then go near westside and outside you will find a big sign that says the Thorn. It is not open late at night, but you can go in there and fight wild animals or bet on matches.)

Skill pl0x.
Not perk.

If you shoot it with only one bullet it will rage completely and become untamed again.
And if you have 14 in it's skill and have tamed a fire ant the tamed animal might not want to fight a cazador that's attacking you, why should it? It doesn't know you, it doesn't care that you get harmed since you haven't tamed it well.
On the other hand, if you do have 100 you can tame a lot of animals and they will still stick to you even if you accidentally fire a few bullets into them and no matter what enemy you face.
With his new skill comes a lot of new perks to help the tamed animal get better, perks enhancing damage, speed, health, critical chance etc.
You can't tame deathclaws, cazadors, giant radscorpions or lakelurks.

But I wouldn't like it being a perk.
It's a feature with a lot of potential.
Wouldn't want it watered down to a perk.

There you go.... i read yours and decided yours would make more sense.... The animal friend perk would help tho.... And were more likely to get a new perk rather then a whole new skill.

Unfortunately I'm sure they will.
Hell, they decided to ditch Big Guns when they could've kept it as a combo skill. <_<
Oh well, I just want to tame myself a gecko or fire ant. :(

I mean, I really want it to be a skill but I know that they're (Obsidian/Bethesda) not going to go through a lot of trouble to create a new skill and will surely rush it out with a perk because it would be easier and less time consuming to create.
So unfortunately I think you're right, if taming does make it to the game it will probably be a perk, while I would be glad that taming is in I would still dislike it being a perk.
Hope that made more sense. :)

I couldn't see a whole skill wasted for taming animals. It would have to be a trait or a perk, or possibly a trait and a perk. Ranking up in it could be like challenge perks, so many animals trapped/tamed, allows you to tame higher level creatures etc. All other intricacies should be governed by either survival or charisma.

Nice idea... just wish Bethseda actually took this stuff into consideration.

O and like at the Thorne (The arena in the sewers) The lady says she tames animals all the time then brings them in.

That would make sick side quest/ cash jobs.

itd be more BA if there was an additional lvl 25 requirement perk/skill that enables you to tame one young deathclaw......call it "new dog,new tricks" and then have a lvl30 + higher strength and charisma that lets you tame a normal death claw and call that "old dog, new tricks"

Good idea, and perhaps the same could go for other animals, though only a suggestion.

And I agree with the whole "skill" thing, it wouldn't work out too well I don't believe.

If a perk it could have a skill minimum, maybe like 30 survival for first rank?

Have you ever played the classic Gameboy color game, Dragon Warriors Monsters?

You run around with a bunch of monsters attempting to befriend and obtain new monsters by calming them with meat.

An interesting concept to say the least. The biggest problem with it is the lack of animals to tame. It almost makes it not worth it. Mind you -- if there were 5 different types of coyotes in the game, that'd be totally different.

There are more animals then you think. There are diffrent kinds of animals of the same species... those would be harder to tame. I mean seriously tho, there is alot of creatures in Fallout New Vegas, and some that ussualy hostile, Have been Tamed! Sniffles for instance, he has been tamed by NCR to help out on the quarry, pretty sure sniffles wasn't just like, "O yea, i have always wanted to be a quarry rat, so when do i start, and how much you paying me?". And if he was then, wow.

should only be included as a third tier extension of the "animal friend" chain of perks. making it a skill makes it an integral part of the game which it clearly isn't and never should be - it should only be included as a far-flung strategy for a very specific type of character build devoted towards that kind of gameplay.

This may be, but a perk based around survival in the wasteland... i think this suits that build well, and that is where i wrapped it around. The requirments for perk version, make it so you must have animal friend lvl 1

animal friend level 1 is acceptable i'd say :P maybe the first tier of this perk lets you tame lower level creatures and a second tier let's you get deathclaws and the like :)

You're right there is a few tamable monsters.

Spoiler
Bighorner
Brahmin
Coyote
Raven (not sure if this counts)
Dog
Nightstalkers
Giant rat
Mole rat
Geckos

Sadly to me, that doesn't seem like enough. If you want to add a feature to a list of features, it needs to be a good one, it cannot be there simply to say you can tame a batch of monsters. Have the fun in games like Dragon warriors monster or Pokemon or Yu-gi-oh, or whatever it may be is to start a collection. Its a proven fact, people like collecting things. Why else did people purchase the collectors edition of this very game?. Including all variants you're looking at less than 20 creatures. Its lacking variation..

I can see this one skill being like a mini-game if anything. I can see our community developing something like this, because we have the time to add in coyotes, rats and possibly some new creatures, but I don't believe Obsidian has the time set aside to create such a fleshed out system.

Thats just my two cents though. I personally think its a great idea. :)

id say there should be three or four teirs......going from low level to death claws is to easy, need to have something more logical, like first tier = furry non mutated critters ie. dogs. tier two = the lower level mutants ie. mantis's, boatfly's, things of that nature. tier three would be the mid level mutants and other critters. tier four would be high level mutants and young death claws.....lets face it not even the terminator can tame a death claw, maybe chuck norris.

how many of the perks in the game have more than 2-3 tiers? you don't want to be devoting every inch of your character to one line of perks. just limit the higher tier "deathclaw" perk to level 16 or higher characters i'd say :)
