Sorry if this is a silly question but, Some npcs in my city mention wanting certain things like food items. I'm not sure how to give them the item. Do I target them and then do like a trade function or what? I drop it on the ground in front of them but nada (I have the PC version) So I'm not sure if there is a key for this or if they are supposed to give me a quest first... I also don't know how or if I can place items on shelves etc without it being a book shelf specifically for that item. I knocked some items on the floor in my house and wanted to put them back where they were and eh... Also when U speak to these npcs they just jabber on about not being able to find a decent sweet roll etc but offer no quest :/ Anyways any help with this would be appreciated.

I highlight the item in my inventory, by mousing over it, and press the "F" key to give it to a follower.
I have reconfiguered some of the keys in my game, so it may be a different key you must use, when highlighting the item you wanna give.

To give food to other people talk to them.Then search the item in your inventory and "select it".

ok but there is no way to target an npc? Also, they are not followers... One is the King's Daughter so like yeah I don't think we get little kid followers lol!!! Um a better question might be, how does one put a basket on an npc's head to steal from them in a shop?

Just talk to them and your inventory will open.
