Tell us about your hoarder...

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 7:17 pm

My thief character is a serious kleptomaniac with a penchant for hoarding items. ...Lots of items. He keeps a smorgasbord of smithing items in Breezehome so that he can easily access the forge outside Warmaiden's. He hoards together all other items in whichever home he chooses to reside in.

Recently, my character decided that Solitude didn't fit his fancy and he packed up all his belongings from Proudspire manor and made the slow (over encumbered) walk to the Solitude stables where he mounted his steed and made the trip to Riften. (did you know you can fast travel while over encumbered and riding a horse?)

After unpacking the many thousands of items into their item-specific drawers and chests I dropped about a hundred items in my efforts to decorate Honeyside. I have a litany of potions and poisons on shelves and end tables. The dinner table is about to collapse under the weight of cheese my character has placed there. The bed is covered in clothing of all types and even a few items of armor. There are random items in all corners of the place.

My character is all about the clutter..

...

Are you a hoarder too? Tell us about your situation.

I've been known to trek with like... 800+ weight across a fair distance because I was stupid and left my horse somewhere daft.
Last night I was dragging myself along in circles looking for my horse (Queen Alfsigr) in the forest only to then remember she was back at Darkwater Crossing. I refuse to drop anything or leave anything valuable in a cave to come back for it later. xD

I have dropped ebony items because I can't help collecting those lumps of solid Dwemer metal, weight 25, value 25.

How much inventory weight or container space in my home do I have devoted to alchemy ingredients I never mix, or potions I never drink?

I only recently realized that a horse is extremely useful when traveling over encumbered. Before that, I was exploring very slowly. Actually I didn't know that aiming with your bow increases speed too. And using the whirlwind shout hadn't really occurred to me. So, before I got breezehome I was walking around with several thousand in weight, and a good deal of that was cheesewheels. I don't know what it is about cheese that is so great but I love me some cheesewheel!

I've never dropped ebony items for dwemer metal, but I have made several (okay, a few more than several) trips back to gather up all the cool stuff out of dwemer ruins. I have quite the collection of dwarven oil... But I don't think it's really appropriate to talk about that here...

exactly! If you are like me then you have pantloads of that stuff that you have all separated out into various containers. But I also have quite a bit strewn about my home. For example, there is a supply of dwarven oil my character keeps on his nightstand.. And I like to keep as much Fire resist potion near the fire place as possible for those cold nights when I get a little pyro and put to much firewood in there.

I do that tons and actually got vaguely told off for it by a guard in Windhelm, ha!

I hadn't checked whether the inside of your house resets or not, i.e. anything on the floor or tables. That's why I haven't got round to attempting to decorate more of the surfaces. I'm using an Xbox and it can be a bit fiddly to place things. I've no idea whether it is any easier to do so on the PC.

Raina the Altmer can't help but to take every necklace, amulet, circlet and ring she sees. Luckily they're not very heavy, but I feel like getting a house only so I can stash her fast-growing jewelry collection somewhere.

It's fiddly to place things on PC as well. Actually it can be an absolute pain in the keester. And you have to have items on your person when you enter in a home and then you have to drop them and then you have to leave [edit] and then you have to re-enter the home [end edit] and then you have to place the item where you want it and then you have to leave again. If you just take an item out and drop it and then place it where you want it, your home will look like it's been burgled. (I love the word burgled)

So, placing items in specific places can be a bit dodgy, but since I'm a bit neurotic I think it kinda balances out.

By Sithis, that is beautiful.

On topic; I'm not really a hoarder, though I do collect items. I have a massive collection of gems, and I decorate my houses with Dwarven Centurion Cores too, the red light they emit is pretty cool and it gives the house a kind of Dwemer atmosphere. I also collect guild-specific armour and Guard Shields for my mannequins, and I quite a collection of cutlery, with a fork and knife that can banish Daedra as highlights. I also have found a few spigots, though they don't appear to have any use.

I mistook the guard helmet for a guard buried under the pile.
Quite a collection, by the way!

I actually keep a spigot on me at all times, just in case I run across a mead barrel without. I would love it if someday this pays off for me. But I don't think it ever will. But that won't stop me from continuing this practice. I should mention that in addition to being a klepto and a hoarder, my character is also a major alcoholic and skooma fiend.

You've given me an excellent idea. I've never strewn about my smithing items. But after reading your post I will guide my character to breezehome and stack up all of the ingots and lay out several hundred leather straps. After typing that last sentence I think it's important for my character to have some leather straps in his bedroom at Honeyside as well. As a master smith I think he would be into that kind of thing..

You mean you just aren't going to store anything at all, ever? (because you can carry everything, it's just a matter of whether or not you like moving quickly. lol)

Change "Bosmer thief" to "Dunmer adventurer" and I'd swear I was watching a video of myself there. Except I shipped Lydia off to hang with the Blades. That'll teach her to call A&E on me! :D

I have dropped ebony items because I can't help collecting those lumps of solid Dwemer metal, weight 25, value 25.

I have to collect them all either, just can′ t help it. Solid Dwemer Metal rules!!!

Well I hoard all ingredients and some potions, and I also usually keep some high level stuff like several sets of ebony armor and blades for a follower, if I should suddenly decide to recruit one
