Why are there spell tomes for Healing and Flames when every character already knows those spells?

One of the plethora of oversights I'd wager.

Probably for the majority of Nords who lack the intelligence ;)

Because if there weren't any spell tomes for them, someone would complain that it's impossible for everyone to know those spells when *obviously* the books that teach them don't exist.

And while every PC might start out with those spells, how do we know that every NPC in the game knows them? Besides which, the PC had to learn those spells somehow, and it's not like there's only *one* tome on Tamriel for every spell in existence. The PC found tomes for them at some point in his/her backstory, and used them - but that doesn't mean the gazillions of other tomes for Healing and Flames suddenly disappear from the world. It would be like starting you off with an iron dagger in your hand and then having it be the only iron dagger on Nirn.

For the NPCs who want to learn magic, but don't know the basic. Not everything is about the Dovahkiin.

I would go with a gameplay and a lore explanation:

1: Gameplay wise: For the sake of consistecy in the games spells. Another possibility is that the followers originally were intended to be able to use them to learn the spells.

2: Lore: Why wouldn't there be spell tomes of a book just because the some hero knows the spell?

My view on them being included is that I think it is a nice little detail.

Someone thinks pretty highly of themselves. Lol. Just because you know a spell doesn't mean the tomes shouldn't exist for the other inhabitants of Skryim.

Because you don't start the game from a zero point.
So it's not unreasonable that "you" would have found one or two spell tomes prior to being captured.

You need to bear in mind that you are dropped into your character in the middle of a conversation they having, if you like, so in some ways you - (the "player") - are playing catch up.

Well, there are always alternate start mods, and some don't start you off with those spells. So it just makes it easier to mod these things, without penalizing the mod user.

For the sake of completion. My Mage started a collection of spell tomes at one point - a collection which wouldn't have been complete without flames and healing.

And? That post provided a possible benefit of having the spell tomes in the game. Why does it matter who's on PC and who's not?

Sure the post was valid but it only applied to PC players. Sometimes i think that people think people only play Skyrim on PC. Therefore. My comment.

They are there for the NPCs who didn't automatically start off with them.

This, just because the player knows it doesn't mean every person capable of magic does.
