Terms and Conditions

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 10:55 am

This is something I read almost automatically. I like to see what I can and can't do, even if it's the same old stuff other companies put in their disclaimers. :P My question is:

Do you read the Terms and Conditions when they pop up and ask you if you agree with it?

If it's from a company I usually deal with, not really. If it's EA, I just walk the other way. If it's some company that strikes me to be trustable like a used car salesman, I just dont do business with them.

If it's something like EA, I'd definitely look at what I'm getting myself into.

Depends on the owner of said Terms and Conditions. If I know I'm going to be using the site repeatedly, then I read them. If it's a one time thing, then no, I don't, because I won't care after that.

I'm going to get rid of that "I just press 'yes' when prompted" thing in the poll since that's what you'd do if you said "no"

I can't even trust EA games on my PS3, I cant use the online features because I profusely refuse to agree to their terms fearing there may be some Big Brotheresque clauses like in half their other contracts.

Edit: And Masterthief basically described how I run too. If it's a one time thing I feel I can trust doing, I dont bother because I wont care afterwards, if it's a site like BGSF I read the clause.

I said no in the poll, do I get a cookie? :D

Speaking of EA, I don't like their "agreements," due to the fact that said "agreement" generally leads to six more "agreements" just to do one otherwise simple task.

In my experience.

I'm pretty sure everyone is obligated to say yes.

Especially when it comes to our forums terms and conditions...

To be honest, not really. I'm lazy. I don't want to read a wall of words.

Rarely if ever do I read Terms and Conditions.

I think this has something to do with my earlier work on contracts. I used to have to read, understand and write contracts on a daily basis. I hated that job because I wasn't an attorney and they're very boring to read.

I have read the Terms and Conditions (and EULAs) of all ZeniMax / Bethesda products and services that I use.

For everything else? Almost never.

I haven't read a single one. Ever. I'm that lazy, and I don't care that much. Which is unfortunate if it ever comes back to bite me in the ass. Luckily, I have you guys, out there scouring the terms and conditions for me. I'm letting you all fight the battles. :P

Don't read all those long walls of text I see when I register to a forum or install a new game. BGSF is an exception, having spent so much time here.
Of course all real world, physical deals I read thoroughly and keep copies of them in a safe place.

Oh, boo, they finally fixed the wording :meh:

For the longest time deep linking clause in the T&C was extremely vague as to forbid any deep linking. Now it's finally fixed to only forbid deep-linking to Zenimax sites.

I've read many T&Cs, ToSes, EULAs, privacy policies, etc over the years.

Terms and Conditions is just another term for "F . U., U wannit, gotta click it."

I'd wager dollars to donuts that it's not enforceable (and in no part due to South Park's episode 'Centipad').

I've read plenty. Not that I always understand half of what I have read, but I do try to at least skim through.

Heh, I know how you feel lol. But hey, you never know what you might end up getting yourself into. Though that stuff mostly applies to hackers...and not the good kind.

Nope, I've been here for 7 years and never bothered, nor on any other forum I joined, reason being, I don't join forums to get involved with litigant related matters such as their TOS. If what I post is not something they want to read, they simply warn/ban me, and whatever happens from there is what happens. I don't use explicitly personal information like my full name, address, SSN, credit card/bank account numbers, etc. to worry about what they say on it. Now, the terms and conditions of, say, opening a credit card, or when my wife and I filed for my permanent residence in Canada sans lawyer, yeah.. I read and understand all the fine print.

I read the EULA for a game demo once. It told me I couldn't play if I didn't have the full game.

Seriously.
