Re-Texture frustrations

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 12:08 pm

OK, I'm miffed, Pissed Off and, otherwise quite annoyed!!!!!!! :swear: :banghead: :swear: :brokencomputer: (:brokencomputer: tossed out the window!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Now that I've gotten that out of my system, I'm having a vary odd re-texture issue. I've ben working on my "FNVInteriors_Core.esm" for some time. I've constantly added new objects, textures and, texture sets to it. I've ran into a strange issue when trying to apply a new texture set to an existing form. (Well it is existing but, I've renamed the form and, reworked it). While working on my "Core" I've gone out of my way to fill in any of the tile sets that may be missing peaces, that exist in vanilla tile sets.

I realized that I applied the wrong trim texture to all of my custom "Hotel Low End hall" ("htlhall" prefix for all of you in the know). I inadvertently used the "Hotel High End" trim textures so, I went back (In my core master) to correct this little issue but, what ever I do these corrected textures don't show properly in my reliant plug in. When I change my texture set to have some odd texture, it still only shows the original texture in the .esp (both in game and GECK) but, when I look at my "core assets master" everything shows properly.

For those of you who don't know me, I am fully aware of the need to "Archive Invalidate" and, possibly the need to load with a clean save! (I've already tried both) I've also, tried giving my texture set a funky texture but, there was still no change in the related .esp. I'm nothing but, confused here and looking for help.

If anyone is interested in trying to look into this "PLEASE" PM me and, I will send you a link of my "WIP". Maybe we can figure this out together.

thanks,

cev

Hey Cev! Sorry to see you have issues but lets try and see if we can just trouble shoot a bit farther. I'm assuming the file structure is all intact correct? I'm sure it is but taking a step by step look at everything to make sure it all still looks in the correct place would be #1.

Now I doubt a 3rd party program or Mod would be causing it but try disabling things that are not crucial. What about taking the textures your trying to change and put them in to a NEW .esm or .esp (what ever is easiest for you) and lets see if we can't reproduce this issue in a separate form. And another thing that is random and prolly not related, remember on my post before about me having disappearing textures in Geck when I laid the room boundaries? Remember that setting we had to go in and change? Lets see what happens when we reset that value back to 1, like I said, I doubt that's it and I honestly don't expect that to just fix it, but its worth a shot.

Heya, Cev... sorry to hear about your troubles as well.

What you're describing is indeed frustrating... and quite strange! It sounds almost as if you have another active mod in which the wrong textures were saved! That doesn't seem likely, however, unless perhaps you've accidentally created an .esm in which the problem was fixed, but an .esp in which it was not is still active. The only way I could see that happening would be if you created your master file without saving the changes to the .esp you created it from, and them somehow accidentally left the .esp checked too.

However... I know you well enough to know that it's rather highly unlikely that this is the case!

If it is, though, at least it would be easy to fix... and then we could all have a good long chuckle!

[edit:]

Also, if you wanna send me your WIP, I would be -more- than happy to play with help test and play around with it!

[double edit:]

Actually, looking back at what you said, I realize that it's perhaps possible that your .esp (the one which is the actual mod) somehow has it saved that the texture should be x, despite that having been changed in the master file. I don't know why it would do something like that... but I suppose it could be something like that, no?

The first thing I thought of was, I did a "Dirty edit" to my own mod!!! :banghead: (This wouldn't be the first time, accidents happen :swear:) Possibly, I made the changes in my .esp not my "core .esm". That wasn't the issue, my .esp was clean. (I've looked at it with FNVedit.) :banghead:

I've checked, double checked and, triple checked my textures, there all vanilla, in there appropriate directories, my texture set points directly to them. Even when I've tried to break them, they still don't show as broken. I'm going to take "Sentai's" suggestion and, first try to create a new .esp based on my master to see if the changes apply. If that fails, I'll try to apply the same textures to a completely new mod. I'll also kill the multibounds fix but, I'm almost certain that is not the issue.

This is a minor issue only door trim is not showing properly, I'm just worried that there could be a bigger underliing issue which will eventually bite me in the A**!!!! :banghead:

Thanks guys for stepping up and, offering your thoughts.

You could always be that person who "does it correct the first time or else" XD :flamethrower:

Edit: We also have to look at the fact that NV:GECK is not perfect, F3:GECK isn't even perfect and thats about 2-3 years old! So we could just be looking at a GECK issue which we should be able to pinpoint better with creating the new .esp. :foodndrink:

I'm such a moron!!!!!!!!!! :banghead: :banghead:

I've figured out this stupid issue!!!!! It was a "Dirty edit" in my .esp which was overwriting the changes in my .esm. I missed it because, I was looking for conflicts in specific cells not, the forms themselves. :brokencomputer:

Moderators, you can close this tread if you wish. Problem solved the problem was I'm an IDIOT.

Sometimes, Just sometimes, BEER and Modding don't go together!! :foodndrink:
