Texture won't update in mod

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 4:22 pm

Title says it all. I'm on steam workshop, and I'm trying to update a texture, but it just won't update. Any idea what's up with that?

The texture is implemented in creation kit, I can see it in the preview, but even then I can't get it online.

I hate to bump, but I really want to get to the bottom of this.

Bumping again. Found out that the BSA I upload does not update, instead it always use the ancient texture for some reasons.

Am I missing out on something really obvious or what?

The cause of your problem can be any myriad of things. Can't really help you without more info on the texture. In the .nif, what is the file path of the linked texture? Did you delete the old one, or did you re-use the name? In the .nif, did you pick 'yes' for Has Verts? Are you using a texture set or are you just relying on the .nif?

I'm willing to give it a shot in helping to figure out what is wrong, but chances are I'll need to see the file myself to figure out what is going on.

Oh, a several-thousands-sources-problem. Yes I see.

Well, for a starter my texture is in the texture directory, AKA where it should be for it to work. I am not sure I changed the name, I'll do that just in case.

The Has Verts things is an option or a dialogue? Cause I've never heard of that before.

And what do you mean by texture set or relying on the .nif? I open the dds in gimp to modify it then just choose it as a texture for a .nif file to integrate in the CK.

In a .nif you'll see a block called NiTriShapeData, if you open that branch you'll see a list of various values with one of them called Has Vertex Colors. It is basically the value which determines if an object uses a texture or not.

Some objects, like armor, will have a secondary set of textures called a texture set. A texture set can override what texture is assigned in a .nif. They'll be named stuff like BlackSmithVarientClothesM and so on in the CK.

What compression are you saving your .dds with, if any?

Mhhh, changed the name of the .dds but to no avail.

Could it be because I use the same BSA as the one I originally uploaded? Can I create a new BSA but upload it with the same mod page and all?

EDIT: I don't compress anything. Trying to set "Has Vert" to yes.

You mentioned that you could see it in the CK, but can you see it in the game?

Worth a shot trying it as a new BSA. When you are stuck its worth trying everything that comes to mind in order to fix it... just remember to keep a backup save.

When I use my .esp file yes. When I subscribe to my own mod, weird things happen, so I rather use the BSA openner to know quickly if my mod has been replaced.

Did you also upload this file to Nexus? Does the Nexus version work like it should? Knowing this will help isolate the problem as just something Steam did and not necessarily you.

Yay twenty questions.

I think I nailed it when I used a new BSA. Well, I'm not one to celebrate too early, but the new BSA has the correct texture and all in it. Hopefully it will work, I'm waiting for a comfirmation from the only guy who cares answering about my query on the mod. Waiting game for now.

And no I didn't create a nexus account yet.

Ah, and while I have your attention, quick question: when I upload something from the CK, will it always upload as the latest mod I released? Knowing that would've saved me a couple of sleepless nights.

(And thanks for your help, I appreciate!)

I do believe it should list it as the latest released mod. If that isn't the case it'd be news to me too.

Glad to help, even if it was just as a sounding board to toss random ideas at.

Just so you know, it has been fixed yeah. For some reason using the same BSA will keep the old textures.
