HD Textures

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:32 am

For people with PC systems, you can re-use the high resolution texture packs from the Fallout 3 HD texture packs in New Vegas. You can find the How-To http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35645

If you haven't used high resolution texture packs before (in Fallout 3), they make things like the ground, walls, floor, wood and some other things look more realistic. They really change the feel of the game and I can't play it without them.

An example of the difference between a high resolution texture and a normal texture: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/images/12056-2-1270557414.jpg

A few thousand people are using these hd textures and I haven't seen any issues because NV uses a lot of the exact same textures as Fallout 3, pixel for pixel, it even uses some Megaton textures still labeled as Megaton. Using the high resolution textures makes the game look awesome. Check them out if you haven't already.

I don't know how to answer your poll. I WILL be, once 4Aces HD pack becomes available....

Yes! Can't wait until NMC (hopefully) releases a full NV version, too.
Until then the FO3 textures will have to do.

I have an issue though (reported it already on the Nexus): some doors are low-res in exterior cells, but high-res interior (e.g. the entrance doors to McCarran Terminal), although they seem to use the same model.

Unfortunately, I think it's been said that NMC is not going to be making a texture pack for New Vegas. :sadvaultboy:

So like Zanderat, I'm waiting on 4Aces to release his Hi-Res Pack for New Vegas.

This pack will be compatible with a future NMC New Vegas release if he does one. There is a small chance he will but he said most likely he won't release it when it's done. I don't blame him nor does anyone else. When I read the comments on his texture packs, they're filled with brain surgeons asking over and over how to install the texture packs even though the installation is explained in the description and in the comments over and over. It's like people don't read anymore and then ask go ahead and ask if the opposite way to do something is the right way to do it.

It'll be cool when 4Aces has his out. I'll use it in conjunction with NMCs textures until (if) he realeases NV ones.

No, because the FO3 high res pack doesn't cover the many new NV textures, so the low res textures in NV would stand out more and annoy me. I'll wait for a full NV pack.

I have installed the FO3 pack and kinda regret it for exactly that reason.

While I appreciate the work of FourAces and will be following it, I still prefer NMC's textures, because while some of it looks good, other of 4Aces stuff seems either a bit cartoonish or too grainy for my taste.

Then again FourAces himself said that he is not doing a texture replacement but an anhancement.
I guess his method does not work as good with every texture.

If NMC is not releasing a texture pack for NV then thats indeed a pity, but well, we will see I guess.

BTW., has anyone an idea while I get different textures for the same doors (see my post above)?

4aces' textures just look like a black noise filter and sharpen has been applied... so everything looks like the world was sprinkled with black pepper.

I appreciate the time he's put it, but I'm not a fan.

He stated he's actually working on some of the more iffy textures, like that and eyes and such.

In fact, he stated that he may even start a new thread after release just to have us list textures that we really dislike so he can work on them and fix them.

So I imagine about a month after its release, all the little kinks should be worked out of it.

I don't, but only because I don't really feel like modding the game until all the DLC and patches have been released, GOTY I guess. If it goes anything like FO3, then I'll be modding NV next spring/summer.

I just make my own textures for NV as I did for Oblivion.

I can stand vanilla NV with max AA and AF.

I tried 4aces textures for FO3 and I wasn't really too fond of them. I'm really sad to heat that NMC isn't going to retexture New Vegas but I still have hope.

you wont ever get real high res textures anyway as that would mean to create high poly models of all items ingame... otherwise all you can do is plain 2d textures which either have horrible normal maps or simply look like phototextures in counter strike 1.0... just increasing a textures size simply doesnt do, arenovalis retextures are the only ive seen so far for a beth game that were truly high res, and even those are simply 1024x1024

Hey Ampol, I really liked your work in OB. any chance you'll release what you have for NV?

Possibly. New Vegas is certainly not Oblivion though and same goes for the textures in both games.
