That Game Jam thing...

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 2:37 am

I'll assume you guys all sawhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SE5owAIPmk:

Well, Todd has noted that the video only shows about 60% of what they did that week.

Now, who knows if this will even be released, whether DLC or as a mod, but let's speculate.
What do you think the chances are that they added:

1. Level up run and jump
2. First person horses

and most importantly,
3. Spell-crafting

I'm just assuming that there's a good chance that IF these ever come out, it would be on PC. I don't see why they wouldn't throw in some spell crafting... what do you guys think?

If Todd Howard is talking in that I can't bring myself to listen.
Can someone please explain what the heck this Game Jam thing actually is?

It was an event where the empoyees of Beth Studios had a week to implement into Skyrim what they wanted to do with no constrains. It had very rough versions of features like Horse Combat, Werebears, spears, buildable housing, better water, changing seasons.

He "talks" but it's a transcription of his words through text. There are no actual voices.
Basically, Howard (or whoever is in charge) give the team a week after they've shipped the game, and just say "put in whatever you want", even if it's really crazy/silly.

Trust me, you want to watch this.

Don't forget mounting a dragon and becoming a Vampire Lord complete with minions. (and some cool stuff like ranged/magic Kill Cams)

There is no chance at all that spell creation will be added back in.

None at all.

Ahh, now I totally get it. I'll give it a watch later but it might just make me a little grumpy that I can't, for instance, fight on my horse. Lady-times, you see.

No? I just read that it was due to the lack of power on the Xbox to use the necessary graphical effects (or something.)

If this were released on PC, why wouldn't they cobble something together? Maybe not as in-depth as Morrowind's or Oblivion's, but it seems like they might find that fun. Why do you think there's no chance?

You just answered your own question.

Because it wont work on the Xbox or PS3, it wont be done.

Multi-platform releases are all well and good, but all parties need equal treatment or you end up alienating a third of your customers. HD pack worked for the PC, because it wasn't a HUGE deal, and PC fans were less likely to stone Todd Howard in the streets after they got it.

To release a potentially game changing feature like Spell creation to PC only would show preferential treatment to one platform... which would be akin to shooting one's self in the foot. Not to mention totally unfair, and BS because it would lead to different features available on different platforms, meaning multiple releases of the same game, meaning multiple copies one would need buy to get the whole experience, then someone would say that they are discriminating, then it would result in bad press, then Extra Credit will do a video about it, then we'll hear about it for the next 5 years as the biggest failing in gaming... etc.

For them to do it now would be a BAD idea.

Just wait. Modders will figure it out, or it'll be in TES 6, one or the other. We'll all get Spell making eventually.

I dont see how graphical limitation is the reason. They already have spell effects, so its not like anything new would be necessary.

Really....explain to me why they released the Creation Kit then? That will NEVER be available on Console! It's no secret TES have always been heavily modded by fans, throwing in the "Console Card" doesn't fly with me I am afraid.

Makes sense, I guess. But if it was something of an "official mod" like Howard was saying some of this stuff might be, and released for free, I doubt anyone would care.

I bet if they did release this stuff only on PC though, thousands of Xbox players would google "how do I ride dragon"
(edit: I don't mean anything by that. I have Skyrim on the Xbox only so far, as my PC is bad. Someday I'll be getting it on PC as well - same thing happened with Morrowind and Oblivion.)
