"That Gun' Huge let down.

Post » Tue Apr 05, 2011 10:18 am

Ok, this is SPOILERIFIC.
Spoiler
For those who don't know, you can buy/steal 'That Gun' from the gift shop in the Novack Dinosaur. Its 1018 caps with a 15 barter skill. It uses 5.56 ammunition, and while that is plentiful, the weapon itself is absolute junk. 18 dmg? really? My 9mm and .357 both do more damage. Heck, I think a razor does more. What was the hype about this gun again? Sure the AP cost is low, but woop-de-doo, it can barely scratch a night kin in the head. :sadvaultboy:

I remember it from FO1, and it was beastly. Heck, even FWE for FO3 it was beastly.

Why the nerf?

tl;dr

This weapon is a piece of junk. 18 dmg. for 1018 caps.

Just pick that lock to the left of the shop-keep in the dinosaur.
That Gun is in there for free.

I know it seems like a lot at this point in the game, but 1000 caps is a pretty cheap gun.

It's really not bad, it fires and reloads really fast. It's also much more realistic than the .223 pistol in the originals, the .223 bullet isn't very powerful, and firing it from a pistol barrel doesn't help.

I guess, I just expected more, especially when the .357 is so much better, for 1/10 of the price. Heck, most guns are under 1,000 and do a heck of a lot more dmg.

It fires and reloads quickly, is very accurate, and is the only handgun that can fire Armor Piercing rounds.

EDIT: Also, because it's a revolver, it's affected by the Cowboy perk.

You can buy the key to the storage area for around 76 caps, and then steal the gun.

O ya and i find it odd how the guns from fallout 3 are super expensive compared to the new guns.

I know this is a dumb question, but did you repair it at all. It retails at roughly 1000 caps because because it's at less than 100% Dumb question #2. You checked the strength requirement, right?

Do you have a hunting rifle? They aren't the standard anymore, they are actually pretty decent. They were rechambered too. .308, same as the Sniper Rifle.

His business is doing very well.

It's a gun lying in some guy's closet you can open for 10 caps with decent barter, if you just don't feel like lockpicking it. Its a good weapon considering you don't have to really do anything to find it early in the game. You want a GREAT pistol, Benny has a much better one.

It's actually cheap compared to other stuff.... I think this and Ranger Sequoia are the only guns I've stolen.
Spoiler
When you get to Gun Runners...you'll think 1000 caps is not a lot.

I am using it a lot, actually it's my hand gun all the time. Owns everything inside buildings. :)
My character feels special using it.
At first I thought it's crap, but now after my gun skill is 100, it is a very good weapon.

I missed it on my first playthrough, picked it up on the second, and got much further much quicker. It's a brilliant gun for seeing off geckos, ghouls, and other assorted nasties. Love it. (are there any mods for it though?)

It's fantastic on my Gunslinger character, mostly because you can reload it faster than any of the revolvers and as mentioned you can use AP rounds with it.

Not to mention that you are using the gun from Blade Runner, which is cool. Great movie, though I wouldn't recommend the latest director's cut because all or most of the narration was cut out, which leaves you with 2-3 minutes scenes where the camera is just panning around the city, though the ending is better than the theatrical versions.

Note to Bethesda/Obsidian: Blade Runner game would sure be sweet.

Huh, http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/That_Gun says:

Despite being a revolver, it does not benefit from the Cowboy perk.

And as a unique weapon, it can't be modded.

I wonder why they chose to lower it's damage and basically just cut it from the game except in this incarnation.. As far as I know there is no other gun to repair it with.. and like the op pointed out the damage is so low it's not worth anything but to steal and then remember the old .223. I loved that gun in F1.. It was also the loudest gun in the game I think. You could feel the power of the gun through your speakers.
