Is the 360 controller compatible with FONV on PC?

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 2:02 am

I was thinking of buying one for myself, specifically http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/xbox-360/xbox-360-controller-and-play-charge-kit-bundle-black/_/XT1879/productpage.html.

However since New Vegas (and Fallout 3) are my favourite games, I wouldn't buy it unless I was sure I can use it to play these games.

So, is the black wireless 360 controller with play-charge kit compatible with this game?

Thanks.

The play and charge kit will not work, since it doesnt have data transfer cables inside of it, only power cables. You would need something like this adapter http://www.amazon.co.uk/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000MGVAAQ/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1290956119&sr=8-7 and a standard wireless Xbox controller.

The XBox 360 controller works great with FONV and F03. I would suggest that you get the wired version as you will have a little time lag with the wireless. I love playing both games with the controller. Have fun!

I'm not understanding why Starforce9 says it won't work...

I'm totally green on this, never owned any controller myself, only keyboard and mouse :blush2:

Thought it would be nice to sit properly in my chair while gaming though...

works great if you use the hard wired 360 controller.

That play and charge kit will let you charge a controller on a pc but it won't sync with a pc unless you have the wireless adapter.

A wired one will work out of the box.

http://blog.signal2noise.ie/resources/images/USB-cable-wiring.png. It has data wires and power wires. The play and charge kit only has power wires. It would charge the controller fine, but no data (button presses/thumbstick moves) would be sent to the PC.

Since you bought the wireless receiver and the wireless controller it will work fine.

Thanks for the explanation Starforce that explains it perfectly. It's like it's useless to use a wireless mouse if you don't have the wireless receiver plugged into the usb...

Even the interface changes from keyboard letters to controller buttons, basically mimicking the 360 version's interface. It's nice for playing it on my 52" TV, but aiming svcks
