The ability to kill witnesses in Skyrim... [Skyrim praise]

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 7:47 pm

...is one of my favorite new additions to the game series. Just the fact that guards are no longer psychic and they now require a witness (that I can kill and have my bounty removed) is amazing. Also, as guards act as witnesses, I can kill the ones trying to arrest me and often escape without a bounty. Brilliant!

Hmmm. Didn`t know that, it`s certainly better than Oblivion then.

Although I don`t play the thief murdering gards type to worry about it.

YES this is glorious and horribly under appreciated IMO. red dead style fleeing civi sees you kill someone in the back ally and run off spreading more havoc.

It's sort of broken. I often kill my witnesses, but remain with my 40 gold bounty. And guards keep killing me when I put my weapon down.

It is a great addition, I just wish the damn horses would stop telling on me!

40 gold is the usual assault bounty, so that's at least better than the 1000 gold murder bounty. Maybe someone else, such a horse, saw you attack so you still retain an assault bounty. And guards do tend to go on a killing frenzy with you, but sometimes it takes leaving the area and coming back for them to offer you the pay off bounty/go to jail/bribe options again.

Whenever I attack and kill Stendar's Vigilants or some other faction member they still hunt me down in the hold. I even get the "Last witness killed" message... it's broken, may be fixed for the love of sithis.

It's a really good feature, still not 100% perfect, I still get stuck with 40 bountys and killing a guard unwitnessed still gives me a 1000 bounty.

I believe the problem is animals can count as witnesses.

There is also the issue of children being able to report crimes, but you can't kill them off (without mods).

What do you mean?

Even when I kill people with no witnesses I still end up getting a bounty.

What's even more stupid is when you steal something in a room with the doors shut and you hear "You can't take that!!!"

Yeah, aside from the above I've encountered some other weirdness. Like I failed to pickpocket someone and they turned hostile, earning me a bounty, then I killed them and the bounty didn't clear even though I was in the wilderness and as far as I know, there were no people, chickens, or horses to see.

Yer, it's good in theory, damn farm animal snitches...

Also, the Stormcloak Soldier you rescued form his Thalmor captors tells on you if you kill them before releasing him.

So bethesda make a better crminal detection system but for some reason leave animals as witnesses?
Sure, animals do see things happen, but neither understand nor care if it`s not directly to do with them and even if it was, they still couldn`t tell anyone about it. What? There`s a special Animal Witness Program section in the Guard`s barracks?

They better get some Protection then as well.

I really don`t get the logic of Bethesda sometimes.

It's a bug, a new system and not yet perfect... Still I really like this system, makes much more sense. And occasionaly having to kill a horse to get rid of a bounty svcks, but it's not like it happens all the time. And even with bugs its a million times better then the system in Morrowind or Oblivion.

Does your own horse count as witness?

Don't think so. Nothing you own (or follows you) counts.

My assassin has backstabbed guards several times with no one around and hasn't got a bounty for it. As people said, the snitching amimals are the main problem with the system. At the very least, doesn't seem like it'd be that hard to mod out?
