The Aftermass of Oblivion...

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 12:36 am

I realize it has been around 200 years since, but don't you think that it's weird that there are NO ruins or indications of the conflict? The gates DID open everywhere (Blackmarrch, Dominion turf, cyrodiil), but yet, we find no trace of it in skyrim. When a gate was closed, it left that black structure as remains and scorched the earth. They also occasionally opened up in or very close to forts, causing damage (as seen outside bravil). Yet, we see no trace of this ANYWHERE! Not only that, but for a race of warriors and men who pride themselves in combat, you hear of no tales or exploites. You'd think that someone whould be boasting that his grandfather killed x amount of them or closed x gates. You also see no trace of a draoth (the alligator thing) spider daedra, scamp, or clanifear. I'm amazed that noone has a head of one of them mounted on a wall or a stuffed one laying around. Some still mention conflicts evn further back, but none reference a crisis that almost ended tamriel...

i ran into a group(cant remember the name) that was anti-daedra and mentioned the oblivion gate era and vowed to stop that from ever happening again but other than that your right. It would be cool if they brought it up more often or had some remninse of it.

Tell me do we talk about events that happened 200 years ago every day like it just happened in the past month?

Nope

you misunderstand me. they simply dont mention it in any real degree. We still reference the civil war from time to time, ww1 and 2 are still discussed amounst some people. And in an environment were both a civil war and a dragon invasion are occuring, not to mention the great war that happened 30 years ago, its odd that no one really talks about it much.

and we've never faced anything like a legion of demons from another dimension threatening us. The worst (from what i no) was the cold war where everyone almost got nuked

Vigilants of Stendarr. Excellent mod opportunities there for factions. If I knew anything about modding or voice recording I'd try it.

It was in a different province though.

That would be like Canadians recalling Mexico's Battle of Puebla for which Cinco de Mayo is based on. I would think an entire province and 200 years removed from the event would be more than enough reason to just not talk about it that much.

Perhaps with a civil war, dagons, elves invading and the daily problems most townfolk of Skyrim go though on a daily basis. It's been 200 years, do people you know talk often about what happened 200 years ago irl?

You mentioned it right here.... I bet after Pearl Harbor and American joined the fray in WWII not a lot of people were talking about the Civil War or the American Revolution for that matter.... so much has happened in Tamriel Since the Oblivion Crisis and there is so much more actively happening (i.e. Civl War, Return of Dragons, Ban of Talos Worship... etc) that it is just not a hot topic of conversation right now, daily events are at the forefront of everyone's mind. They do have books about the Oblivion Crisis.... though the one area I do agree is that there could be some evidence, like said Clanfear skulls etc... maybe a bar story or two... (then again... visit the Museum in Dawnstar... The Mythic Dawn were at the forefront of the Crisis and this guy has some key artifacts including pages from the Mysterium Xarses. So I guess there are some remnants in Skyrim after all.

a museam glamorizing a certain cult who wasn't very fond of the champion of cyrodiil is a slight reminder, is it not?

The crucifixion of Jesus? The Dinosaurs extinction? Everything from Ancient Greece to the Middle Ages? Those are a few examples. Great people and great history are never forgotten. Since not evolution happens on Nirn, you would expect the Oblivion Crisis to be talked about much much more. Also, I talk with people almost every day about guys over 200 years old. Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Locke etc.

the gates opened everywhere. not just cyrodiil. the thalmor reference who they closed some in there land and soo do the lizard men (cant spell their name). And you hear a redguard state that hes looking for a sword of his fathers because he used it to feed his family through hunting. you dont hear anyone say something to the effect of "my family has more honor because my grandpa killed 100 demora"

The difference between the Oblivion Crisis and the Battle of Puebla is that the Crisis would have destroyed Tamriel and Mehrunes Dagon would have taken over. This would affect Tamriel and possibly the other continents too.

People in Skryim do talk about the past. There are people in Dawnstar that talk about the Oblivion Crisis, and one of them I believe even mentions something about "We don't like to think about it"? There are also books to read in-game as well if you need more information on it.

Yes a goof becuase nothing in the way the event is protrayed in skyrim shows it was a goof.

The Mythic Dawn Meseum, The Vigilant of Stendarr group, about 3 books on the matter, and several NPC quotes = goof.

I swear people just love twisting things to hate on the game companies.
