Haven't gotten that far yet, but if the perk tree is any indication, Dragon is the best of the best.

Personally, I'm sticking with the Ebony Mail that I got from one of the Deadric quests. The enchantments on that thing are killer. :)

Smithed to the Max Daedric gives the best AR rating, but this becomes irrelevant after a certain amount as its capped to only negate 85% of the damage dealt anyway.

And I believe (but dont have proof) that all armours, with the correct perks taken, can get to this level. So you could be trotting around in either Iron or Daedric and still take the same 15% damage from each enemy hit.

Daedric can reach the max AR easier.

Personally feel that if you want the fancy armor route, then to only get the Dragon Armor perk if you plan on using both light and heavy versions. Like light dragon armor for your main and heavy armor for a follower. Otherwise stop at Daedric.

Dragon is slightly better, since you'll be at the armor cap with both, but Dragon is a little lighter if you don't have the perk to remove weight.

I maxed out smithing it pretty cool all armor really good really just think to youself what armor looks the best and put a perk point in that and you can make that armor better

Spoiler
I also got ebony gauntlets of smithing which makes smithing 25% and I got amulet of smithing that is smithing 15% better and one more thing I got silver blood family ring which is smithing 15% better
then I take a blacksmithing potion which is smithing 50% better I know over kill but it works.
hope that helps and Tha dragon armor is not that good and I don't like the way it looks to me anyways.

Daedric armor is slightly better than Dragon with a 660 max armor rate while Dragon has i think a 650 max armor rate, Dragon armor is lighter i believe tho but i personally perfer Daedric to Dragon.

It depends on you char. If you use light armor then dragon armor is the way to go because Daedric armor does not have a light armor option. If you rely on heavy armor then daedric is your best bet.

Technically the best armor to use would be the lightest armor that it is possible to reach the armor cap with, less weight to carry, benefits to sneak and you won't use as much stamina, faster movement etc. Only downside is you need to waste a lot of perks getting it up to the armor cap.

I would say its best to use a mid range armor, something like Elven, then it's far lighter than Daedric and with smithy gear and potions you won't have to use up many perk points reaching the cap as you would if you were trying to get hide or something up to the cap.

Daedric is the highest raw AR, and the heaviest.
Dragon is the second highest raw AR, and is noticeably lighter. Not to mention easier to craft.
With smithing and Heavy Armor perks, you'll have no trouble hitting the cap in either. Just remember that you will always take at least 15% of damage.

Do resist enchants on clothing also grant AR like in Oblivion? I remember in Oblivion I wore the cheapest "tattered" pants, shirt, and gloves, and they completely maxed out my AR because of the frost, fire, and storm damage resist enchants on them. Which allowed me to enchant tattered shoes with speed, and jewelry with camoflauge, making me an incvincible whirlwind invisible ninja.

I personally go with Daedric. I think the dragon heavy armor is hideous. I do like the way the dragon light armor looks though, so when I eventually level up my characters light armor that is what I will be using.

Daedric has higher AR, but is heavier (and has an unlisted benefit of extra 10% chance to have successful Intimidates. You may also get attacked by those monks that wander around wanting to kill Daedra) Dragon is Lighter. If you get the no weight perk, and hit the armor cap, its purely a matter of visual taste.

I wore Daedric for awhile. I'm going to switch to Dragon soon just for the change. Plus I have a set of Legendary Blades Armor I use when dragon hunting with the Blades, and a Legendary Imperial Set I use for my Imperial Quests. While both sets don't have as good of AR of daedric or dragon, I find it fun to wear armor that matches what quests I'm doing.

it comes down to this. It isn't an MMO. Don't worry about MIn/Maxing. Pick an armor that you like and think is fun to wear. If yer smithing is Maxed, and you use smiting enchanted gear and smithing potions, you can make ANY armor set strong enough to use at level 50+.

Ultimately it doesn't matter. It shouldn't be that hard to get either of them up to the armor cap. Somewhere around 560.

They wouldn't give AR against raw weapon damage, they'd just improve your resistance against magic damage.

Daedric is better stat wise, but it doesn't matter since you can reach the AR cap with either sets by upgrading with smithing and a high armor skill. So just use the one you like more.

Light armor is always better, because of the 10% dodge and 50% stamina regen perks.

You can also hit the armor cap with light armor.

I didn't know about those 2 special unlisted side effect of the daedric armor. Where did you learn that ? Does it apply to all heavy armor ?

Go to the "behind the scenes" section. I havn't seen that bonus on any other armors, but shouldn't be surprised if some do have them. (Like the guards commenting on you wearing armor made of dragon's with dragonbone or scale armor)

I actually made a full dragon heavy armor set before Deadric. Besides the helmet, I just found the Dragon armor to be ugly as hell. The differences between the two are not that great, but I just prefer the look of the Deadric. Except for the helmet...it's just too asymetrical for my tastes. So I am now rolling with a Dragon helmet and the rest Deadric.

Another downer for Dragon is there is no dragon weapons, just armor. However, it is SO much easier to make Dragon armor. Just dragon scales, bones and leather.
