Seriously.

I was testing some of the companions, it's really quite amazing how much better he is than the others in combat. with a sniper rifle on very hard he can actually solo a deathclaw.

I don't quite know why. I mean, cass has almost the same guns rating that boone does, and I have completed both of their side quests. Boone got the recon armor and cass has the damage bonus. cass has 100 guns, and boone 115, but cass get's like 15% damage bonus from her perk. They should break about even. But they don't. Boone does at least twice as much damage with guns. Stats seem to be essentially meaningless.
