The changes to Smithing are ridiculous.

Smithing was easy for me, I just used mostly iron daggers, or I'd transmute iron to gold to make jewelry

I agree with you OP, which is why I now level it using the Oghma Infinium glitch instead

So then basically the issue is "I want to max out my skills quickly and I'm impatient and it's annoying that the game isn't made to be maxed out in a couple days' time."

No. The issue is I like to do whatever the hell I want in my single player sandbox game, and that doesn't include grinding smithing. So the Oghma Glitch works just fine for me.

That's what I was saying - you want things NOW and don't want to bother with the game until you've got a high level character.

No, you're still wrong. Why does it bother you so much? Go and worry about something more important instead,.

Uh... 100 in all skills + Jaysus swords? (pwn)

I love this mod. I still dislike the change made to smithing. Did it need one: I still think that is debateable if one wasn't spamming iron daggers. All I've ever done is make things I wanted to use, now I have to make extras just so that my level will improve.

The change went to far.

So let me get this straight: you brought it up, but you don't want people responding to it? It don't work that way, buddy.

It's called "practice". No smith ever got any good just making the few things he'd need to use himself. And who ever heard of an armorsmith or weaponsmith making armors and weapons only for himself?

Meanwhile, I found raising Alteration and Conjuration on my sneak-thief/archer to be absolutely torture. It's all relative.

Oh gods, Conjuration. I installed a mod that gives my character a conjured familiar at level 1. So she's been continually, incesssantly spamming Conjuration since her wrist ropes were cut off in Helgen. And at level 20 she is still only 30-something in Conjuration. That's just brutally slow. I gave in and adjusted the rate gain to be faster.

I feel you, man. They took it WAY overboard. They should have just made it a little bit more challenging, in my opinion.

At the start of the game (if my character is going to get involved in smithing) I generally clear out Embershard mine first of all of it's iron ore. I then go to the Halted Stream Camp to clear it out and pick up the Transmute Ore spell. After I get the spell I take a carriage over to Markarth to clean out Kolskeggir mine of gold ore.

I then begin the ever slow process of transmuting all of that iron ore into gold ore usually ending up with over 130 gold ores. Since each gold ingot requires two gold ores you will have about 65 ingots by the time you are finished. I then go grab the warrior stone and start smithing these gold ingots into gold necklaces/rings and inserting any gems that I can to increase the experience gained.

If you start out with 15 smithing this process will take you to 35 or 36 smithing in about ten seconds, not counting the time spent waiting for magicka to regenerate to cast the transmute ore spell.

The whole grinding thing is pointless. I'm not playing an MMO. I do not want to be grinding on something stupid to make levels.

Oh and with UFO installed and three followers I need quite a bit of armor just to get the team suited up. If kiting the team in good gear doesn't make a level something is wrong with the system.

I just boosted enchanting, made equipment for 0 magic cost, worked up to telekenisis then taped down my buttons, for conjuration I just soul trapped a dead bear for an hour or more, alteration and restoration were easiest for me

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Dwarven_Metal_Ingot#Mineral_Sources. And remember dwarven bows are the most cost-efficient and temper them don't just craft.

It probably would level you up at low skill levels. At higher levels it takes more work.

I just leveled it up from 1 to 100 in under 2 hours making just daggers. As long as you have enough money just fast travel from one smith to the next, buy supplies and make your daggers.

Really not that hard.

From what you said, you obviously took the right side of the tree. If you would have went the side with Elven, Advanced Armor, Glass, then you could make Steel Plate armor. The materials needed to make it are relatively easy to purchase from blacksmiths and it increases the skill by quite a bit, all the way to 100. Improving them at a work bench also gives a hefty increase in skill and then you can turn around and sell them to make back all the money you spent on materials. Definitely the best way I've discovered to power level blacksmithing in the new system. I recommend it to everyone!

Yep. There are 3 people in whiterun to buy leather and iron from, make a bunch of daggers then move on. I usually go to windhelm, riften, markarth, solitude then back to whiterun. Just make sure you have money and it doesn't take that long at all.
