The Companions quest glitch

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 11:34 pm

I have very little to complain about this game. Where as everyone else is slating it like it's some sort of Hell sent piece of sh*t, I am thoroughly enjoying the game. Sure there are a few graphical glitches from time to time and the lag is a pain in the ass but all it takes a reset, not really a massive problem for me.

However, there is this one glitch that has practically ruined the game for me and that is when i went to do the quests for The Companions. The quests 'Proving Honor' and 'Retrieval' were given to me but somehow I ended up with the quest where you turn in to a werewolf. Thinking this was all fine and dandy, I completed the quest only to find that Skjor, the person I had to turn 'Proving Honor' in to, had died during the quest. This now obviously meant I couldn't turn in the quest. On top of that I still have to turn in 'Retrieval' to Aela The Huntress.. but i can't because when i talk to her there is no option to turn in a quest. I figured what must of happened is some how I had been given the quest to turn in to a werewolf before I had completed the other two. Oh and it gets better. Not only can I not turn the quests in but Farkas, one of The Companion, is following me everywhere as he is a temporary companion that helps you in the quests I can't turn in. He can't die. You can't tell him to go away. He can't hold any items. You can't change his armor. He just gets in the way of everything and I have had to put up with him for the whole game.

I have completed the main storyline, the Thieve's Guild storyline, the Dark Brotherhood storyline and the College of Winterhold storyline. The only one left is The Companions. Please can someone find some fix to this glitch. I have searched and searched but can find nothing. Anything anyone can find will be greatly appreciated! :)

Mine is stuck on the quest "Blood's Honor". I can go without completing the quest but, the problem is that 20 of my inventory is used up on the quest items and I can't even remove them from my inventory. Also, one of the main vendors in Whiterun (Warmaidens) is stuck over in front of Jorrvaskr with two of the other Companions and all the rest except Vilkas and 2 others are stuck inside with no interaction available. So basically I lost 20 inventory and a vendor in Whiterun to a quest I can't even complete (even though it says I've completed the quest). Please at least fix the vendor / inventory problem Bethesda.

Keep playing the game and see if the lag still isn't a problem.

I just did the "Proving Honor" quest yesterday. This is the quest that is used as your trial to get accepted into the Companions. Farkas is suppose to be with you to witness how you handle yourself during the quest. He's part of the quest and he is a werewolf at one point in the dungeon. That's why you can't get rid of him or change out his inventory. Skjor shouldn't have been on this quest with you as far as I know. You go to the dungeon with Farkas, retrieve the "sword fragment" (can't remember what it's called) and bring it back to the Companions HQ where you will join "the circle" behind the building and be sworn in as a member.

That's what I'm saying, I know what all the quests are and how freakin useless Farkas is, but somehow the quests have got mixed up as i clearly explain and I'm desperate for a solution that doesn't involve starting the game again..

How did you get the quest and and who did you get it from?

I got the quest from the leader of the Companions. he was sitting at a table eating with Farkas at the time. he gave me the quest and told Farkas to join me. I had the option to either have him follow me or have him meet me there. I chose to have him follow me.

Did you make sure to grab the "fragment" at the end of the dungeon? Without the fragment, the quest won't finish.

You mentioned that Skjor died during the quest. How did he end up with you to begin with?

I didn't have to bring the "fragment" to anyone to finish the quest either. As soon as I showed up at the Companions HQ's, Farkas' brother was on the front steps waiting for me before I even got to enter the place and asked me to follow him to the back of the building where the "circle" was waiting to welcome me as a member. Anyway, check your inventory and make sure you have the fragment.

Bugs can be a real problem with Skyrim. I've had "Purity" for the Companions bugged on my PS3, where the quest basically ends once my character leaves Jorrvaskr, so the ritual can't be done.

I got the quest where you turn in to a werewolf from the same place i got the others.. but that was a long time ago so I don't remember. As for the fragments, I have both fragments, one for 'Retrieval' and one for 'Proving Honor' but obviously Skjor's dead (he dies during the werewolf quest - he, Aera and Skjor come on the quest after you become a werewolf where you clean out the Silver Hands from Gallows Rock) so I can't turn in 'Proving Honor' and Aera won't let me turn in 'Retrieval'. I've spoken to all of the other members of The Companions, including Farkas' brother and the leader bloke, and there are no options to turn the quests in. If I ask any of them for work, they reply with the fact I already have jobs from Aera/Skjor.

Yeah, something is messed up there. You're not even suppose to get invited to become a werewolf and begin "Silver Hands" until you've completed "Proving Honor'. And it's not Skjor you have to bring the fragment to. Like I said already, when you arrive with the 1st piece "frgment" you are met at the front door by Farkas brother and then he brings you out back where you are welcomed to the Companions by the "Circle". There never really is an exchange where you hand the fragment over. It just happens during this part automatically.

Don't know what else to tell you. Good luck.
