The Companions SPOILERS!

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 2:50 am

I have a complaint I guess.. It seems to me that I can not be a part of the companions unless I want to be forced to be a werewolf..

I don't want to be a werewolf..

Also if you want the second word for fire breath you must be in the companions.

There are many other quests in this game that are forced.. Such as when you step into Markarth for the first time and no matter how fast you tab out the man forces you to take his note and that quest is forced on you.

I don't like that quest. I've done it both ways and I won't be doing it again.. So that "read whats his name's note" will be forever in my journal..

It ticks me off really..
I would love to be in the dark brotherhood but I don't want to kill the Emperor .
I would like to try the thieves guild but i don't like the mule's behind that gives you the quest to steal something and plant it on the Dark Elf male..
Why is there no other way to join them? I don't like that quest or the quest giver.. He is pushy ,arrogant , unpleasant and not someone I would ever deal with in my reality..

Many quests I've noticed are stuck in the journal just because you walked past someone and they began to speak.. Out-loud and not to you specifically..

There is no way to get them out of your journal most times either...

Thoughts?

Thanks for listening..

AGREE! Glad I had old saves when I was thrown in jail mine, HATED that story!
I might do it LAST after I have done everything else I want to do.

On the warewolf compainon story, I think once you have the beast blood you don't HAVE to use it, it's just a power like the ones your guy starts with, which I have yet to ever use.

Is there at least a cure I could run out and get as soon as they force werewolf-ism on me?

You'll get that shout in Dustman's Cairn before you get to the part where they forcibly werewolfize you.

When you finish the Companions questline, the option does come up for you to cure yourself.

Sometimes in life you have to do things that aren't a 100% to your liking.

I get the not wanting to become a werewolf thing, but then why complain about not being able to continue a predominantly werewolf clan? Other options would have been nice but for the companions I don't see the problem tbh.

The quests forced on you without accepting (and not able to remove them either) are anoying though. Whatever gamedesigner thought of that is a tool.

Because Companions is supposed to be like Skyrim Fighter's guild... I like the fighter's guild and I create fighter/warrior characters.. It would be a natural choice for my characters. Why must this be the Werewolf guild?

Only join us if you are some sort of Werewolf Fanatic .. Otherwise go away because Skyrim has no Fighter's guild..

???

At some point in the Companions quest you can cure yourself - hint.... take more than one witches head when you have a chance.... ;-)
Also with wolves blood you are not able to rest at night as you should be out there taking blood... You can ignore that and become "normal" after you finished the quest. I personally thought it was one of the most beautiful things to become the leader of the Companions and level up in certain things..... not telling what yet...

I agree and avoided the Companions for a long time because of it. I knew I could cure myself, but my character did not want to be a werewolf. Why is that so hard to understand Bethesda?

I also I hated werewolves in Skyrim. I was a werewolf in MW's Bloodmoon and that was incredible. A curse, just like it's supposed to be. In Skyrim it's more like a perk.

Well I became one eventually. I then got cured and then cured all the companions that I could. Still didn't like going through that though.

You can sleep. You just don't gain the "well rested" bonuses. You also don't have to worry about having to carry a bunch of cure disease potions with you, or worry about contracting vampirism when in a vampire lair. You don't have to ever change into beast form after the first night, although I found it does make traveling across land at night quite fast. The guards do complain about my dog howling though.

And the Forsworn Conspiracy where that note gets forced on you? You don't have to do that quest. Optional quests where you hear something on the street, a rumor, and it pops into your quest log as a miscellaneous quest is something I like, because I may be in a conversation with someone when that rumor happens and I don't have to chase down the person to ask them. It isn't forced on me to do the quest. I just wiped out the Markarth city guard when I was arrested for the "murder". Markarth became a very very quiet city. I think I had a 30,000 bounty. It kind of forced me to really support Ulfric. But it was either Ulfric or prison.

Nor is it forced on you do to join the Companions to get the Fire word. You could just go exploring and find it on your own. I've found words on my own in the game without a quest. Unfortunately it nearly cost me my character's life, but I found them.

I agree! I want to be a werewolf but not Dragonborn, yet every dragon wall I come across I absorb that stuff as if I was one. I don't want to be no dragonborn!

Like I posted earlier, if all you want is the word for the shout, and you don't want to be a werewolf, the Dustman's Cairn quest is early in the faction's questline, before they ask you to become a werewolf. In fact, it is during this quest that you find out about the whole "my new buddies are werewolves" thing. You can stop talking to them after getting the shout, without needing to bother with the whole werewolf thing.

i didn't like being forced to be a werewolf to complete the questline either. i haven't joined the companions since my first playthrough. another annoyance about the companions is, even after curing yourself, the stats are bugged and it will still increase your 'days as werewolf' stat. the werewolf component really should have been a side quest/fully optional.

as for the TG, you don't have to plant the ring on brand shei. steal the ring, then drop it, then speak to brynjolf. you'll be able to tell him you lost it, and he'll tell you to meet him in the ratway. successfully planting or not does not affect the questline. i always 'lose' the ring, as i like brand shei and like that he is an extra general goods vendor in riften (he'll buy anything).

i completely agree that you should be able to get all words and shouts without having to join the guilds. if memory serves, i think every guild has a 'locked word/shout'. poor design.

Hmm. I suspect this has more to do with how many restrictions you are willing to accept to roleplay your character. I would love a place to file "inactive quests" - things my character simply wouldn't do and quest lines she has no interest in. But aside from that I simply ignore the quests and factions that violate her principles. If this means I don't have access to every shout or every trainer or piece of unique equiptment - oh well. I can always make another character with different moral standards and different goals to find those things later. I have several quests that will remain forever in my journal because I killed the quest giver or another important individual because my character violently disagreed with their goals - I did this knowing it would break the quest line, but it fit for the character that I'm playing currently.

i disliked the companions quest line in general. Kill silver hand, kill silver hand, kill silverhand done.
