The Dark Brotherhood, or Gimmy your money Criminal Guild ?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 5:47 am

This is my 5th Char in this game, and this one is about 75 sneek, I don't even set off traps when I step on them, I have enchanted sneek armor, a skeleton Key, and Legendary gear, and am going bankrupt doing the Brotherhood quests ?? It has cost me thousands to kill people for them. I sneek in through the woods, guy comes walkin around behind some home, I do this beautiful long shot at 2 am in the dark, and up in the left corner the owrds appear, " 40 dollar fine because you had a witness " My eye says I was not seen, and a look around reveals no one ?? It was to the point I grabbed the sons schedual, waited until he got to Riften, went into the guards barracks and offed him because I get half off my crimes because I a with the guild. Has anyone been able to get through this quest without any fines ??

I did. I walked right up to him in the Inn in Whiterun, told him I was going to kill the emperor, and let him attack me. Then I snuffed him in self defense. No bounty.

Pickpocket poison goes a long way, especially frenzy poisons. I did that to most of my targets in the Dark brotherhood. Just for added measure I let them go nuts and hit someone else first usually just to guarantee I'm in the clear to take them down.

I don't think 40 gold is going to cause you to go bankrupt xD

I find that stealth can be a bit random in Skyrim. I was on the quest to assassinate the Khajiit caravan target. They were camped outside of Markarth, I shot in with an arrow from right across the river, up a hill, in 'hidden' sneak mode. Soon as the arrow hit him the rest of the caravan immediatley knew that it wa I that slew poor kitty. That is but one example of many

I had no problems with this quest line. Well one problem because an auto save was currupted and I had to use a different save. I finished the DB with more gold than I started with. I have killed random people in the wilderness and had bounties placed on my head or assisens sent to kill me.

For the love of Talos, go find the Thu'um 'Laas Yah Nir' (Aura Whisper). Before you kill your target, fire it off, and you'll be able to see everyone in the vicinity.

I just started the DB quests again today and had the one to kill the guy in Ivarstead. Killed him, no bounty notice, but then 2 guards started attacking me. Checked my stats, I had no bounty, nobody else was attacking me, was confused. Ran and hid, waited until they'd lost me, tried walking into town again and the same two guards attacked me. Killed them, dumped their bodies in the river, walked through town. None of the townspeople or other guards were hostile, I still had no bounty.

Sometimes the AI and crime system in general makes no sense.

When I played the DB questline I only got two bounties. One was scripted and the other was for the market guy in Whiterun. I waited about a week in-game for him to out hunting (which he never did) and then got fed up with it. I figured I had a get-out-of-jail-free card anyway since I was thane so I didn't even bother with stealth, just walked up to him and sliced him up.

Never used a bow as an assanination weapon tho, so maybe that's where the bounties are coming from. My usual MO is to sneak up behind someone and then cut their throat with a dagger

I did most of my kills right in plain sight and didn't get caught. But my sneak was at 100. And my kills were one shot kills with a bow.

Getting away with murder (and any other crime) is cake in this game. Trespassing is way too easy too. In Oblivion I remember people yelling at me to get out of there house and giving me a final warning etc.

In Skyrim, you can walk right by most people without them even noticing.

the son of the penitus oculatis doesn't have to be killed all the way inside a city, i've killed him on his path to solitude as he reaches the top of the arch of a bridge and still received the bonus

step 1: hide
step 2: turn into a werewolf with no one seeing you
step 3: maul the target to death
step 4: run like hell

When I had that quest they were camped at Whiterun. I went up to the target to see if there was a dialog option to get him riled up. I don't think there was, or I missed it. At any rate, whatever dialog was available before was gone and he just made quips. So I sighed, left the camp, went into sneak mode, returned and decapitated him. No real surprise that the pigeon was now among the cats!

I ran toward the town gate, the guards saying, "A fight!" "This outta be good," or "My money's on the big one." Now you know the Khajiits say they aren't welcome in town, right? I ran through the gate and they came after me. Guards did nothing, unless we got close, then they ran away. Finally I ducked into Breezehome, went upstairs and hid behind Lydia for a while. I eventually went outside, and there they were, sauntering back to the gate, friendly as usual. Ri'saad was even willing to do business with me right then and there.

One of my characters killed that kitty in sneak mode bountyless and then when i returned to that caravan all of the khajiit attacked me so i killed them in self defense.
